I came slightly late to the Glee phenomenon. I had heard about it from friends, colleagues and pupils but paid no attention. Then as an end of year gift I was given the first season on DVD and have not looked back. I'm addicted!!!

You may be wondering what this Glee is all about - well it is high school with a twist. For those of us who are a little more mature think Fame but (in my opinion) better. Meet the students and teachers of McKinley High who are all rather quirky and fun. The school use to have a champion Glee club (a musical group / choir) but now they've fallen apart. Along comes Mr Shoo (the Spanish teacher) who wants to transform this group back to the champions they once were. There follow the trials and tribulations of the students and teachers as they prepare for the sectionals (singing competition).

The show is littered with none stop fabulous music that the actors perform to perfection. A few songs covered in season 1:

Respect - Aretha Franklin
Rehab - Amy Whinehouse
Push it - Salts and Pepper
Mercy - Duffy.

There are loads more songs - too many to mention. Each episode features some core songs that the students then perform - sometimes to express how they are feeling. The scene when the students perform 'Push It' in the school library is hilarious.

The show has taken on such a gathering that many famous names are clamoring to be part of it - in later series there is a whole Madonna episode, Gwenyth Paltrow guests stars - it is pure entertainment.

For anyone who wants to escape realism for a while and enjoys a bit of comedy mixed with musical then this is the show for you.
