... is my favourite from Series 1. Del and Rodney go on a night out in Boycie's Jaguar, and as you can guess with the Trotters it doesn't go smoothly! 'Cash and Curry' is ok, if perhaps a little predicatable. 'The Second Time Around' is ok too, not my favourite episode if honest. 'A Slow Bus to Chingford' is a good episode, 'The Russians are Coming' is mostly set in Delboy's very own homemade nuclear war shelter, I love this episode, Only Fools never did anything like this again in its history. Final episode on the ...more

Only Fools and Horses - The Complete Series 1 (DVD): Only fools and horses....lovely jubly (3830 words)

This is not only a review for seroes one, this is more a review for the entire series, including the special episodes..... Only fools and horses began its life in 1981, penned by John Sullivan, who also wrote Citizen Smith. The seven series, (and 19 Christmas specials) lasted through till 2003 and revolved around two main characters, Derek (Del)Trotter, (played by David Jason) and his younger brother Rodney, (played by Nicholas Lyndhurst), they lived at 23 Nelson Mandela house, a block of high rise flats in Peckham and drove a bright yellow three wheeled van with 'Trotters Independent Traders' painted on it. Derek, or Del boy as everyone knew ...  Read the complete review

Where it all started! (238 words)

The first series of Only Fools and Horses is a cracking addition to anybody's collection, there are numerous reasons why the earlier seasons are far better than the older ones, least not because Leonard Pierce as grandad is much more flexible than his onscreen brother Uncle Albert. Grandad is a "soppy old git" but at the same time wily and quite similar to Del Boy, his voice is legendary and the character is not limited to saying "During the war" like Buster Merryfield's. The first series quickly introduces us to all of The Trotters close friends and the schemes that the two come up with ensure that each episode is a gem. Whether it's ...  Read the complete review

Only Fools and Horses - The Complete Series 1 (DVD): The first series of a classic comedy (164 words)

The first 7 episodes of Only Fools and Horses from 1981 - starring David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Lennard Pearce. Episode 1 is 'Big Brother' - I like this episode, it sets the foundations for the rest of the series, some good one-liners too. Episode 2, 'Go West Young Man' is my favourite from Series 1. I'm probably one of the biggest Only Fools and Horses fans there are but I am very annoyed that the BBC have not put ANY special features on the initial series of Only Fools and Horses on DVD. They should have taken a peek around the corner and done the same sort of package as the first two series of Red Dwarf, which is an absolutely amazing DVD package. I am not rating the show here, and that is why I'm being so harsh. I suppose you can't complain about the price (£11.99 at www.play.com), and you get a chance to watch the classic episodes over and over again which is what it's really about in the end. I just hope future releases include a few ...  Read the complete review
