      Fab series

      Secret Diary of a Call Girl is a series that was shown on ITV 2. There were four series in total with the one I am reviewing here being the second. The series stars Billie Piper and Belle de Jour and the series is based on the books by Belle de Jour which focus on her personal experiences as a call girl. Series two does follow on from the first series but if you haven't seen this then it is easy to pick up from here. This is a film only review.

      The series begins with Belle giving us a brief recap of the first series. She then goes off to a client who is actually a high class politician. Belle is discreet and isn't at all fazed by his status as a lot of her regulars are famous and therefore she is shocked when a journalist asks her to tell her story.

      She then goes to meet her Madame, Stephanie where she becomes acquainted with a young girl who is keen to enter into the business. Belle is sceptical and worried about the girl, whose named herself Bambi as she is only young and seems quite naïve. Despite not really warming to Bambi immediately Belle offers to take her under her wing because she feels happier knowing someone will be looking out for her.

      As the series progresses Belle faces a number of dilemmas including accidentally going to someone who isn't a client, embarking upon a relationship and having to answer to a wife of a client.

      After really enjoying the first series I had high expectations of this series too. I really loved the character of Belle as she seems quite down to earth and real despite having a less than ordinary job. Belle's real name is Hannah and the real Hannah is a lovely girl who is your typical girl next door and nobody would ever suspect her alter ego.

      I enjoyed this series as I felt the plot was interesting and provided fresh and interesting ideas following on from the first series but not to an extent where if you hadn't seen series one you couldn't pick it up. The plot is so well thought out in this programme that I feel as though you could easily watch a random episode and understand what's going on.

      Billie Piper does a really good job as Belle/Hannah and its amazing how she can switch from being lovely, gentle and kind Hannah and Belle - the girl with no inhibitions. Although Belle's profession is extremely controversial and personally, I don't particularly agree with it, Billie manages to make Belle really likeable. There are numerous things that Belle does that I think noooo! But it's like I can never stay mad at her.

      Surprisingly, Belle seems to be able to live her life as Hannah without thinking of Belle, I mean she does think of her but if a client is abusive or nasty she manages to turn that off as soon as she gets back into Hannah.

      Each episode was originally aired for 30 minutes which included ad breaks so therefore the actual programme is only about 25 minutes long. The length allows the plot to remain really fast paced and interesting but I imagine it would have been frustrating watching the original series as it does feel that as soon as it begins it's the end again. I think a 45 minute slot would have been better for this but that's just my opinion.

      ==Additional Information==
      The series first aired in September 2008.
      It was shown on ITV2.
      The series has 8 episodes.

      A very good follow up to the first series which I definitely recommend.
