      Very helpful

Not the best season of the show but still a little above average.....

Season 4 of Smallville first aired way back in 2004, ending in 2005, and is one of the stranger seasons of the show with some very Tomb Raider-type storylines that largely see Clark trying to track down a series of Kryptonian stones before Lex Luthor and his father, Lionel, can get hold of them. These stones have an important role to play in Clark's future and their true nature is not revealed right until the season's end!

This is a kind of mixed bag of a series with some great storylines (first we get to meet Lois Lane and see the beginnings of her and Clark's stormy relationship then, later, we get to meet the young guy who will go on in the future to become The Flash) and some decidely strange (Lana becomes possessed by one of her ancestors who turns out to have been a witch, one of the main guys from Supernatural turns up in a recurring role for much of the season) including one episode that features a Super powered dog! Once again, as with previous seasons, there are some really strong story-lines developing here but this is not a show without its fair share of filler episodes and there are times when you just want the show to get on with stuff more directly related to The Man Of Steel. Especially I live for the subtle nods and hints at the future we all know will one day come to pass when Clark finally dons his cape and, to my mind, there are just not enough of those here!

One of the most prophetic themes of this series is the doomed future of Clark and Lex's friendship and it is in this season that the cracks and strains really start to show! Lex gets given a real glimpse at his true nature and his descision as to whether or not to embrace it will have ramifications for seasons to come!

Overall, this is only a slightly above average season and there are a few times when everything starts to get a bit tiresome. The whole series I felt as though I was just waiting for the big reveal at the end so as I could finally discover what all the chasing around the globe after ancient artifacts was really about and though I must say I wasn't disappointed, still there are better seasons than this and the whole thing just feels a little under par at times. Thankfully, the show goes on from here to go from strength to strength but it is just a shame that the writers this series just seem to have lost a little bit of the plot!

Essential watching ~ but only if you are a big Superman fan or are determined to watch this show from beginning to end! Casual fans of the show may feel a bit disappointed with this season......
