Now, for some reason, Supernatural is a show that I had avoided for a long time (I have no idea why) and have only recently got into it. This show has been around for quite some time, it first aired in 2005, and is now on its seventh season! I had heard a lot of people talking about how great the show was, and since I am a huge Buffy fan, I thought it would be worth a go.
The shows core premise is simple enough. It centres on two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, who haven't spoken to each other in awhile. Sam is at college studying law, and is rather estranged from his family. Dean is the 'dutiful' son who is following in his fathers footsteps as a Hunter. As you can imagine, they are hunting down normal wildlife! Hunters track down demons, vampire, werewolves, and a whole host of other mythical creatures. Unfortunately, their father John seemingly goes missing, and Dean has to call on Sam for help. This is where the show really starts from, the brothers are reunited, and have to work together again. Season one primarily focuses on the brothers relationship, as they track down their father, and provides a nice introduction to some of the creatures they will face in future adventures. I won't give the plot away too much, but expect a couple of twists and turns.
Without giving too much away, the second series primarily focuses on the brothers search for one particularly powerful and evil demon. This demon has plagued their minds since childhood, and they definitely have a huge score to settle with it. Expect a whole host of mythology based on demons, and their various powers and capabilities!
Despite the serious subject matter of the show, there is actually a lot of humour in it, quite often supplied by Dean! Jensen Ackles does a fantastic job of portraying Dean, he is slightly more reckless than Sam in the early series, and a little bit of a 'bad boy' with a good heart. I would say that Sam is the more sensitive brother, but their relationship is brilliant, and the two actors really have great chemistry.
There are some other notable performances, such as Jim Beaver as fellow hunter Bobby. He is something of a father figure for the boys, and is usually there to provide a helping hand. He definitely doesn't mince his words though! I find him to be a very endearing, and engaging character.
I think the special effects in this show are remarkably good, especially since they had such a small budget for the first series. All the creatures look very well done, especially the werewolves and spirits.
At 40 minutes long per episode, I was always left wanting more, and looking forward to seeing what adventures the boys would get up to on the next show.
Even if you aren't a fan of the fantasy/horror genre, I would still recommend giving the show a go! The characters are very engaging, and the storyline is gripping enough to reel you in. It only gets better as the series progresses!
My husband watched this when the first season was on TV and kept trying to persuade me to watch it 'telling me I'd love it'! But after seeing the trailers, I thought it looked scary so gave it a miss. Anyway, he ended up buying season 1 and 2 on DVD and twisted my arm to watch it and I'm so glad I did.
For anyone who's never seen Supernatural before, the plot is simple (to start with anyway...);
Sam and Dean are brothers, their mother died when Sam was a baby trying to protect him from a yellow eyed demon who came to the house for Sam. Since then the brothers have been dragged across America with their father John who has now dedicated his life to 'hunting' anything supernatural. Now, Dean has went into the family business of 'hunting' and Sam has turned his back on them and went to college, met a girl and is about to settle down, that is until the yellow eyed demon comes for his fiancé too. Sam has no option but to join his brother in a quest to hunt the yellow eyed demon and anything else supernatural that they come across.
Supernatural is similar to the X-Files in so many ways but much, much better. There are the 'monster of the week' episodes, which help to break up the ongoing plot but the best part for me is the humour especially from Dean the sarcastic older brother.
Anyone who hasn't seen Supernatural should go out and rent/buy it straight away. It's addictive television at its best and you could waste an entire day watching one episode after another before you realised just how many other things you should have been doing instead...... and then you'd still end up watching 'just one more'.
This series does not disappoint at all! It is hilarious and has really good story lines. If you are female you will love the two main guys in this too.
If you have watched X-files in the past and were a fan then you will love this too. Some of the individuals that worked on some of the X-files episodes work on Supernatural too.
The comedy throughout this is sooooo good. The music used throughout the series is really good too. It's good true rock music.
The series has a good amount of gore but is not too scary for those that are really easily scared. I was hooked from the beginning on this series and you will too - I would recommend this to everyone!
This boxset is really good value as once you start watching these you just can't stop. If you buy this it won't be long before you are buying series 3 and 4 too! Roll on series 5!
This show is for anybody who enjoys a little bit of sci-fi and supernatural viewing (as given away in the title) and also enjoy a little light hearted humor.
The story is set around 2 brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester. Who's mother is murdered, as well as Sams girlfriend, by a demon. The whole first series is about them hunting this demon and following in their absent fathers footsteps. Dean is the tough rock music fan older brother fully trained in battle and Sam is the educated one who longed for something more, however the two as a team are unbeatable.
Both seasons are based on character building and you really do get to fall in love with the winchesters - as well as pitty them, they live a lonely and difficult life potentially saving the world in secret from society. Supernatural shows everything we feared as a child to be true - Monsters in the wardrobe, under the bed, witches ect.. and is their job to kill them.
As well as the action of the show, there is a lot of interesting background story, such as the brothers relationship with their dad and eachother, and their love interess and difficulties. There is a lot of sarcasm and light humor as the seasons progress, and Supernatural makes for great viewing.
Supernatural is a wonderful made for T.V series about the two Winchester brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean(Jensen Ackles)who are searching for their missing Father John.
Their mother was killed by a demon when the boys were still small.
The boys have been trained as demon hunters by their father and take it upon themselves to look for anything out of the ordinary and investigate it.
Sam has special powers and we see this power grow stronger through the series.
There are many slayers all across America who are trying to keep the evil forces in check and save us normal people from the unknown.
Sam and Dean never tell the people they are trying to help who they really are and live motel to motel using fake I.D and credit cards.
This is a definate must see for anyone that is into anything to do with the supernatural, it is funny as well as interesting to watch.
One question I would like to ask is how come they dont get fat as they always seem to be eating junk food.
The seies was shown on ITV and ITV2 in the U.K.
If you have never seen this I would recommend it totaly.
Supernatural is a paranormal comedy/thriller series currently being shown on ITV2, in its 4th season.
I have the series 1-3 boxset but will just be reviewing series 1.
The series follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles). Following in their fathers footsteps as "Hunters" investigating and solving mysteries unexplained events and murder. Which involve myths, folklore and urban legends, also combatting against paranormal creatures like Vampires, Warewolves, Ghosts and Demons.
The series see them travelling across the country in Deans 1967 Chevy Impala (absolutely gorgeous car). The pair are on a journey to find their father using his Journal as a guide. It includes all the information on various beasts, and paranormal creatures in which his father has come across along his way. Their father too is a hunter, and is on his own journey to find the killer of his wife Mary, which is shown in Episode 1. A yellow eyed demon killed Sam and Deans mother when they were both young, they too want revenge as much as their father but theres more to do than go after one demon.
Season 1 has 22 episodes, each of them with different mysteries to be solved but leading them to the final objective sending whatever demon, ghost or beast back to where it came from.
The Winchester brothers are very protective of eachother which sometimes is their downfall. However, its not all doom and gloom in the series, the brothers are funny and goofy. Every episode has a lighter side to it, and I've found myself in absolute stitches at some of the stuff they do.
Describing the brothers is quite easy, Sam's a bit of a bookworm and normally comes up with most of the answers. When the yellow eyed demon (known as Azezel) killed their mother Mary he infected Sam with his demon blood, which gives him some psychic abilities, and lets him see visions of all sorts, some good and some quite horrific. He's the more serious of the two brothers, where as Dean likes to find the funnier side of things.
Dean has the brute force and the firepower/weaponry to kill whatever beast or demon they're up against. The boot of his car is full of all kinds of weapons the most used weapon of theirs being the shotgun with Rock Salt shells. Salt is one of the most used products in their arsenal, its known that an evil spirit or demon cannot cross a line of salt or enter an area that is surrounded by it because of its purifying elements.
There are other characters they meet along their travels, one of the main characters being Bobby Singer. An old friend of their fathers who is a hunter himself, and has alot of knowledge of various myths, legends and who helps them find the only known weapon in existence that can kill the Azezel.
The Colt. A gun made by Samuel Colt in 1835 for a paranormal hunter. With only 13 bullets, whatever it shoots, it kills. It is also the key to the "Devil's Gate".
The season finale ends there, at the Devil's Gate where the yellow eyed demon Azezel opens the gate and sets free a hoarde of demons into the world. The boys recover the Colt, but is there any bullets left to kill Azezel?
I'd recommend the series to anyone who likes their paranormal myths and legends, and fancies something new and fresh. The series are great fun to watch and interesting. To imagine if the legends and ghost stories we've heard were to come true. The episodes are different everytime, but still interlink with the main objective. There's something for everyone.
The series are rated 15 as some are quite gruesome with some horror aspects, so its definately not for children, its definately been made for older teens and higher.
Supernatural is one of my favourite television shows and it's grown to have quite a cult following. It's currently onto it's fourth season and airing on ITV2/CW. 'Supernatural is an American drama-horror television series starring Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, brothers who hunt demons and other figures of the paranormal' .
My favourite episodes from this box set have to be
*Pilot - A brilliant episode and introduces you to pretty much all of the MAIN characters, Sam, Dean and their (missing) father John. It covers the reason they became demon hunters and introduces the dynamics between the two brothers while also setting up the series.
*Bloody Mary - probably the freakiest episode of ALL series of supernatural. the legend of bloody mary (if you dont know the legend, if you say 'bloody mary' in a mirror three times then she is meant to haunt you), it's freaky but brilliantly done and leads to a good old brother moment.
*Home - The brothers return to where it all started. Kansas. And are able to face their past and defeat a demon. Missouri, a psychic is comedy gold when she has banter with Dean and their father makes his first appearance.
*Nightmare - Sam and his psychic power. brilliant ongoing story.
*In the time of dying - brilliant season 2 opener following from the finale. Nice family moment and brilliant one-liners 'dude i full on swayzied that mother!'
*Born under a bad sign - the end is fab.
*Tall Tales - THE FUNNIEST EPISODE I HAVE EVER SEEN
*All Hells break loose - Series finale. AMAZEMENT.
Supernatural not only deals with an adventure narrative, Dean;s quirky attitude and charasma add to genius comedy in the series, and his one-liners are brilliant!! Sam is the counter-balance, he's serious but has good banter with Dean. GENIUS LEAD CHARACTERS...and not too bad looking either ;)
If you like Supernatural stories like vampire programmes or ghost stories. this is fab! you dont necessarily have to be following it to love each episode for what it is . brilliance.
Supernatural is centralised around two brothers and initially their quest to find their father whilst slaying shed loads of deamons, and other nasties along the way (Although as the plot progresses, this changes considerably)
The game follows Sam and Dean, who as the show progresses feel amazingly fleshed out and believable characters,
Most of the writing of this show is solid gold with the exception of the bizzare series one episode "Route 666", which believe it or not is actually about a racist truck, which while the episode means well in condeming prejudice it comes accross as just a little silly (The truck is not a very scary monster in comparison to some of the other ghoolies on the show)
Series one and two are a brilliant introduction into a fantastic show, this is definitely a worth purchase, and afterwards there's season three and four to look forward to.
Supernatural is a show that I got into last year by chance. I was watching Sci-Fi channel I think and I seen this advertised so I thought why not this is something that me and my partner could get into.
The series follows the Winchester brothers Dean and Sam, they are both known as "hunters" also their father is a hunter too. As the title of the series suggests the brothers solve unusual events all over the USA. They are travelling looking for their lost father and on the way they read, hear about different events happening all over the USA hoping that they can find a lead to their dad's disappearance.
Sam is the more sensible brother and tries and explains everything in detail and is the one you will usually see with his head in the books working out the cases. Dean is more adventurous and it's not unusual to see Dean with a lovely lady hanging from his arm. Sam and Dean are both warriors in the supernatural world and are feared among the evil supernatural entities.
Each episode follows a different case for the Winchester brothers. So most of the time it starts with Sam and Dean in Dean's black 1967 Chevy Impala. Dean loves this car more than he loves himself but I think that's a close second. One of them will receive a phone call or read an article in the paper which they think as a link to the supernatural world and which inevitably it does.
You then follow them on their mission and watch them fight the good fight against the evil supernatural entities in the "world".
This show got me hooked after a couple of episodes. I like Dean he is witty, funny and comes out with some classic one liner. Dean and Sam work so well together because they are chalk and cheese but have a massive link that will make them close forever. They would do anything for each other which you will see as the series goes on.
I recommend this for anyone who loves a series that as a different side story in each episode but still striving for the big prize at the end. Finding their father and what has happened. You will like the banter that happens between the brothers and also the many different ghosts, ghouls, devils etc that you will meet upon the way.
I don't think this as ever become prime time TV in the UK but it is certainly a series I would recommend to anyone and will get you hooked in no time. I promise.
