      Classic Police comedy

This DVD contains the fourth season of the Detectives, the classic comedy series starring Jasper Carrott and Robert Powell as Briggs and Louis two of the Met Police's not-so-finest. The Detectives is a brilliant satire of the crime and police dramas that television is so fond of.

The DVD is very basic: it contains a single disc with the six episodes from the series, with no features or extras. It doesn't even have a leaflet or contents manual. However, because of this, it is usually available at a budget price and this series is definitely worth a look.

The episodes have transferred to DVD well, with no sound or quality issues during play. Each episode is half-an-hour long, giving a total running time of 180 minutes. The DVD is twelve-rated for some occassionally dodgy language and content, but it's suitable for most viewers.

This season covers the pair as they try their hand at (evading) Christmas duty, prison escort services, environmentalism, and even at Wembley Stadium. This season also contains the classic episode "Fur Coat, No Knickers", where the hopeless pair investigate a murder at a medievil reenactment. The six episodes are: "Thicker than Water", "the Great Escaper", "Fur Coat, No Knickers", "Back to Class", "Sacked", and "The Wembley Stadium Mystery" - that's right, in the final episode of the season the pair wind up on duty at Wembley Stadium.

As always from The Detectives, the writing is sharp, the humour spot-on and despite being some years old now the series hasn't aged at all. It's still laugh-out-loud funny, and something that will always lift your mood. At the budget price this can be had for, it's one not to miss.
