The Inbetweeners - Series 2 (DVD)
Date: 28/12/09
Rating:
Advantages: Hilariously funny, great set pieces and script and acting
Disadvantages: rude, very rude
The Inbetweeners Season 2 is a hilariously childish take on school life, starring Briefcase-carrying nerd Will (Simon Bird), socially inadequate Simon (Joe Thomas), sex-mad Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison), it follows the adventures of four teenagers as they bond, try to get laid and learn about life.....the hard way!!
Season Two is made up of six hilarious episodes where the humour is always base, and as we found at Christmas not entirely appropriate when you have elderly relatives in the living room, but there are more than enough laughs for viewers of all ages.
Episode guide
The Field Trip - A school geography trip to Swanage becomes a rites of passage as Will and Simon fall out over a girl, Jay goes on the hunt for a mythical MILF who seeks out schoolboys on the trip and Neil gets harassed by a child hungry teacher. Typical school trip then!!
Work Experience - Will has his heart set on work experience at the local paper, somehow his and Neil's applications get mixed up and he ends up at a mechanics whilst Neil works at the paper. Mixing his trademark nerdy nature with laddish mechanics is a recipe for disaster, while Simon is bullied by a twelve year old after an unfortunate incident at an under 18's party.
Will's Birthday - Will has big plans for his birthday, unfortunately nobody else does except his mum who buys him an awful vest, the lads come round along with Simons exchange student friend who proves to be a real pain in the bum for all of them.
Night out in London - The lad's decide to ditch their geeky nature, however an incident involving a tramps messy shoes, a crazed warehouse owner and an unfortunate incident in a toilet for Jay and Neil makes them realise they are who they are.
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards - Will tries to persuade the boys to work in an OAP home as part of their work for the DOE awards(because he fancies someone who works there), his romantic ideals fall apart as Jay is caught doing something utterly inappropriate in an old ladies bedroom.
Exam Time- Final exams, will the lads make it, will Simon capture the heart of the girl he loves, Jay has a girlfriend who is real, will he make it work and will Neil remember his PE kit, unfortunately all of these things pale into insignificance compared to the mess Will gets himself into.
My View:
I think this show is childish, puerile and rude and its incredibly funny, the main foursome are excellent, Simon Bird is a good lead as Will, while James Buckley in particular is outstanding as the mucky Jay, he captures his inadequacy and his sensitivity perfectly, these are six excellent comedy episodes combining the teen humour of something like Animal House with a more sophisticated show such as Peep Show, the set pieces are excellent, the script is hilarious and its one of the best comedies I've seen in a long time.
You can watch all the episodes on 4OD or get both series for £9.99 on Amazon.
