I've had this DVD for years now, and have always been a big fan of 'The Simple Life', I wrote a review on the first season a while back which wasn't very good as I was a new member then and didn't really know much about the requirements etc. But I will start this review off by reminding people of how funny this reality show used to be.
The series follows multi-millionaires Paris Hilton and childhood friend and adopted daughter of Nicole Richie as they make their way across America back home to LA in a pink truck with no money, no mobile phones and no credit cards. The only thing they have to offer is themselves as minimum wage workers earning up to $100 for each job they do if they do an excellent job with it declining the worse of a job they do, which of course usually happens. They have to beg for money in the first episode to cross over states to begin work and even sponge money for petrol to continue their journeys to work.
They have to stay with families, the only thing different from the first season is that they are not permanently with one family throughout the season, they have to visit other people although this time they can stay in their own trailer.
I personally find 'The Simple Life' as light hearted fun with their fun, childish pranks they pull on the families and their bosses at work. Of course, they use any excuse to do as little as possible and cause as much chaos as possible - I wont go into too much details as I wouldn't like to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it and would like to see it.
I would easily recommend it to everyone I know, although I do think its aimed at the younger audience.
I personally can't find one fault with the DVD other than at aprox 3 hours it doesn't last long enough.
Worth a watch, even if your not an airhead.
As some of you may already know, I am quite a fan of Paris Hilton; and it was a reality television programme called 'The Simple Life', which first introduced me to Paris Hilton, along with her best friend at the time Nicole Richie (who is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie). I was quite a fan of the show and bought a number of the DVDs. Today, I will be reviewing the DVD of the first series.
The Simple Life was an American reality show which followed 'spoilt brats' Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as they travelled around doing 'normal jobs' and having to survive of working for a small amount of money. The show aired between 2004 and 2004.
The Simple Life Season 2 DVD was released in the United Kingdom in 2005 and so is quite old now. The DVD is a twelve which means that it must not be viewed by persons under the age of twelve. This DVD contains all of the ten episodes that were The DVD is currently available to buy from Amazon for a price of £6.99 which I think is quite expensive considering that you can get more recent DVDs selling for less than that these days.
Follow Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as they go on a road trip across America as they stay with different families and do different jobs. How will they get on? Watch this DVD to find out!
One thing that I love about this DVD is the fact that it is sure to cheer you up. It's such silly fun, and the two are so stupid that you just can't help but laugh out loud at them, especially when they are horrified when they have to carry out jobs that us normal people have to do to earn money for a living.
This DVD is very funny at times, especially when Paris and Nicole have to do the disgusting. The girls are also very mischevious which most of the time is very funny. However, some parts annoyed me such as when they got their own ways etc, although I thought that Nicole turned out to be more annoying than Paris.
I enjoyed the first series, although I would have to say that this series is much better than the previous one. Paris and Nicole seem more 'at-home' and relaxed with the show, and it just seems to flow more smoothly and ends up being a lot more funnier than the first show!
What's good about these shows, is the fact that you don't have to have seen any of the episodes or seasons' before. You can just get it straight away. Also, it is the kind of show which you can watch whilst chilling out, as it doesn't require much thinking, which means that it is perfect for watching after a stressful day!
The DVD does include some extra features such as the out-takes as well as a reunion episode. My favourite 'extra feature' was the out-takes as they were quite funny, and allowed you to see what Paris and Nicole were really like.
I would definately recommend this DVD, especially if you love a bit of light entertainment and silliness! It's a stupid show, but suprisingly, it is highly amusing!
Thanks for reading!

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, two rich girls living on money earned by their family had a reality show all to themselves, this ran for five series. This is the second season where the not very bright but very attractive girls hit the road to do various odd jobs like being maids in a nude resort.
I found this show to be simple yet compulsive viewing mainly due to the girls attitude about life and things. They don't have a clue on what to do yet they manage.
Paris Hilton has no talent apart from the money and the family she was born into same applies to Nicole. These two girls will be happier snorting coke and partying than meeting average folks and doing mundane jobs. It is this part I like. It is very funny at times. This series was completed however the girls fell out and the show was cancelled after couple of years because of girls fame for the wrong reasons.
* THAT'S HOT
Perhaps a forgotten memory to many of you now, or just something you never wanted to associate yourself with, Paris Hilton used to be big news when she first hit on to the scene as the female Callum Best with her partying hard although ever since her stint in jail the most we have really heard about her is her relationship with Britney's ex, K-Fed. Partnered up with Nicole Richie, daughter of famous musician Lionel Richie, the two heiresses to a whole load of cash are the stars of reality television show, 'The Simple Life'.
This surprise 2003 hit drew a staggering 13 million viewers upon its premiere for the FOX network in America, and showed a 79% increase in adults 18-49 watching at that timeslot. Whilst the second season, 'Road Trip', saw a drop in ratings the premiere still drew 9.8 million showing people were still interested in Hilton and Richie. The concept behind the show was to introduce the pair to the simple life that many people have to lead, without all the money, and took away all the luxuries they were used to. Of course, there is clearly a smoke shield put up so we don't want to see them clearly enjoying all this stuff, but the idea of them being 'broke as a joke' for the 20 minute episodes is surprisingly enjoyable to watch.
* NO CELLPHONES, NO CREDIT CARDS, NO 'CELEBRITY STATUS'
Adding a twist to the formula of the show from the first season, 'Road Trip' sees Paris and Nicole driving across America in a pink pickup truck draggingtheir airstream trailer. The introduction to the season shows the pair coming across a toll booth, and whilst holding up all the traffic Nicole goes around begging for money. She ends up returning with more than the 75 cents that she required, but it's all in a days work for her. Screaming, "Bye gorgeous," Paris then continues the drive down the motorway.. or probably just turns off and lets someone drive her to the next set. Just don't think about the possibility (probability) of it all being fake.
This show is all old news now, so some people may wonder why I have choosen to review it, because I sure haven't picked up the DVD. My reasons behind reviewing it were in a late night channel sweep last night I discovered that they were showing a double bill, starting from the first episode of the season, clearly E4 have decided to use The Simple Life as a filled for their Big Brother live coverage that is now over. The Simple Life is where I also saw other episodes of the show a couple of years back, but had completely forgotten the show existed since I hadn't seen it in any television guides.
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are the ultimate in spoilt brats, and you might think you don't need to watch their reality television show to realise that, but the way they act is entertaining in my point of view. I can see a completely different audiance hating it and finding their insulting remarks not entertaining but crude and unfounded. I guess it just depends which way you want to look at them. This is probably a good time to reference to a South Park epsiode spoofy Paris Hilton, entitled 'Stupid Spoiled Whore'. If you do not want to laugh at the way the pair act, in the first episode of the season you can laugh at Paris falling off a horse, and being worth $350 million of course she ends up being airlifted to hospital to check for internal bleeding. This story actually made the news in America, and I'm sure that worked out as a good commercial for the new seasons opening episode.
With all the commotion, the father of the family that they were staying on the ranch with ended up spending money to try and make it up to Paris rather than the way it was supposed to go down - them doing work on the ranch. I was actually quite surprised to see the way his opinion turned around, because after his speech on how he wears the biggest hat in the ranch and is the one in charge, he was reduced to a completely different person. Maybe the comical remarks from Nicole like she is going to get a bigger hat eventually wore him down. Other jobs the pair come up against as the season progresses is training to be mermaids, working in a nudist resort and practicing their sausage making skills.
* THAT'S COLD
The show is obviously intended for a female audiance, with make-up and catch phrases that make the pair even richer. And you may think I'm crazy, but there is without a doubt room for a male audiance with the appearance of the two stars of the show. I do remember about three years back this show was a big deal, but since the break down in friendship between Paris and Nicole I guess there can be no plans to continue the show and bring it up to date in 2008. Maybe Paris will suggest bringing the show back with Britney in replacement for Nicole, I'm sure I'd watch it then with the millions. So whilst you may think the comments the pair make about fat people and the way people in the show try to help them only to have it thrown back in their face is cold, I honestly believe this is one of the best filler programmes on television. Or maybe that's exactly what is wrong with society today.
