'The Simple Life' has always been one of my favourite reality tv shows and season one is the main reason I become hooked. It stars hotel heiress Paris Hilton and her childhood best friend and adopted daughter by Lionel Richie, Nicole Richie. Together, they must leave their luxury rich and famous lives behind to live on a country farm in southern America. But thats not the hardest bit for the girls! They then have to get regular jobs, but as suspected these Hollywood friends don't do their jobs as demonstrated to them and make fun out of the locals, make friends with the boys, attract attention everywhere they go and Paris becomes romantically involved with "Chops" they then go on to cause mischief and then this is where the fun begins.
Throughout the season, Paris and Nicole are continuously fired from their jobs after misbehaving and acting very immature but in an absolute hysterical way. These two together are comedy gold.
I would reccomend this DVD to ANY comedy light hearted fan, regardless of whether they like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie or not.
A fun, light hearted insight into the lives of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie living like the rest of us. Watch out you will begin to adore their catch phrases like "That's Hot" and "Loves It!".
As some of you may already know, I am quite a fan of Paris Hilton; and it was a reality television programme called 'The Simple Life', which first introduced me to Paris Hilton, along with her best friend at the time Nicole Richie (who is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie). I was quite a fan of the show and bought a number of the DVDs. Today, I will be reviewing the DVD of the first series.
The Simple Life was an American reality show which followed 'spoilt brats' Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as they travelled around doing 'normal jobs' and having to survive of working for a small amount of money. The show aired between 2004 and 2004.
The Simple Life: Season 1 was released in 2004 and is currently available to buy from Amazon for a price of £7.99 which I do think is quite expensive, especially as you can get more-recent DVDs for less than this. This DVD is a 12 which means that it must not be viewed by people under the age of twelve.
One thing which I love about this show is the fact that it allows two rich spoilt brats, who have never had to do a days work in their lives (they are so rich that they don't need to) have to do a normal job! I think that this is great, as it shows them how the rest of us have to manage ; most of the time, they can't believe the jobs some people have to do to make money. It certainly makes them appreciate what they've got. The only thing is that once their day/week is over, they get to return to their 'perfect' lives, whereas the rest of us have to continue with them.
This DVD is very funny at times, especially when Paris and Nicole have to do the disgusting. The girls are also very mischevious which most of the time is very funny. However, some parts annoyed me such as when they got their own ways etc, although I thought that Nicole turned out to be more annoying than Paris.
I remember when I first heard of this show, I was a bit like 'oh those two!' and didn't really like them (I hadn't watched the show at the time, just read all about them in magazines), but once I had seen them on this show, I couldn't believe how likeable they are; yes they are slightly crazy, but are also really sweet too! They're really not as bitchy as I thought that they would be. Although, it's fair to say that they do appear to be a little rude at times (such as when the man whose family they are staying with gets angry with them). I think that out of the two, Paris is definately my favourite!
The DVD does include some extra features such as the out-takes as well as a reunion episode. My favourite 'extra feature' was the out-takes as they were quite funny, and allowed you to see what Paris and Nicole were really like.
I would definately recommend this DVD, especially if you love a bit of light entertainment and silliness! It's a stupid show, but suprisingly, it is highly amusing!
Thanks for reading!

I was first hooked into the Paris/Nicola saga a few years back and have been attached ever since.
At first glance it may look as though it is about two spoilt rich girls who get sent to work.. yada yada we've seen it all before. And yes, quite possibly it could look like this to some.
To the majority young female (and male) audience to which it is intended it is the perfect blend of comedy, cheekiness, glamour and fashion that sucks you in from the words 'that's hot'.
You see Paris and Nicole parade around a small American town causing havoc amongst the locals and doing their best to earn a wage for the first time.
Not only does it give you a look into the life of everyday Americans, it also (and more entertainingly) shows you the aspirational lifestyles of two young carefree girls and the situations in which they get themselves.
With a couple of extras that weren't aired on television alongside the series - the dvd is a bargain if you love Paris and all that she has to offer the world.
If you like pink, fashion, fun and a lot of cheek this DVD is for you, and you will soon be adding 'that's hot' and 'loves it' to your vocabulary.
That's right, I'm admitting to watching a simple program about two simple girls, but it does have its amusement value.
For those who haven't seen or heard of this before, The Simple Life is a reality TV series starring the infamous pair, Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie. It started out back in 2003 and aired 5 series, though I believe they've since had their arguments and fall-outs so I doubt we'll see a repeat series in the future ('thankfully', I hear you say).
This is more a general review of the different series, though I've posted it under series one as I think the original was probably the most original, as after that, there's only so much of the nonsense you can take!
Whilst this started off in America, shown on Fox & E!, it came to the UK later on Channel 4, and there are still reruns shown now (ie. E4), but I think times/days vary so it's best to check the website or tv guide. According to the website it was last on 1pm 4Music, just to give you an idea.
The premise of the show is a fairly good one; take 2 rich, famous-for-being-rich socialites and see how they cope living the 'simple life' for a week. Whilst the concept it good, it's not long before you see just how much is altered and acted for the benefit of the audience, so it's not the harsh change between comfort and bare necessities that you'd hope for, and neither is it all spontaneous.
The girls are given a different scenario in each episode, so we see them travelling around America in their (hideous) pink caravan thing and settling themselves in with a new family. This entails them 'living' amongst them and becoming one of them, doing what's asked of them and trying to make some money along the way.
The types of jobs given to Paris & Nicole vary and always have interesting 'incidents', ranging from gutting fish and working on a farm yard, to assisting in a cosmetic surgery centre and going to a youth fat camp.
Each series is modified slightly to give the episodes a general theme : The 1st Season (general) / Road Trip / Interns / Til Death Do Us Part / Goes To Camp
I won't waffle on too much about what they do, but there is a fair amount of variety when it comes to their tasks and the incidents we see. Whilst each show is different, I nonetheless get the sense of sameness, because no matter which episode you watch, it always feels fake & phoney, with the same stupid comments & actions from these plastic girls.
A little harsh maybe, so I'll balance that by saying that watching this is quite easy-going so it doesn't require any thought. It has its moments of being funny, whether you're laughing with, or at, the girls.
Overall, this isn't quite 'reality television' in the sense that much is fabricated/acted, so it lacks the sense of spontaneity that would make it more involving to watch. Paris and Nicole, for those who aren't fans, will annoy you and wind you up, but I find it quite amusing to watch. It's drivel, but it's easy to watch if you're in the mood for mindless trash to keep you occupied for 25 minutes.
The Simple Life is a very funny reality series featuring hotel heiress Paris Hilton, and Lionel Riches daughter Nicole.
Either love them or hate them, they really are a funny double act in this 1st series of the Simple Life.
This series was filmed in 2003 and they carried on with follow up series' until 2007
So what is The Simple Life?
Well basically you follow the blonde duo struggling to live and work in the "Real World"
You see them both taking on their first ever real jobs including work placements in busy restaurants, farm work, cleaning, and camp counselors.
They have no credit cards or any finanical luxuries from home and have to work for everything and earn their keep.
You get to see the pair swearing and moaning through all the tasks that are thrown at them and it is hilariously funny to watch.
I became addicted to this DVD very quickly and was laughing at all of their funny sayings, "Thats Hot!" being the most famous.
If you are looking for a fun slap stick reality DVD then this series is for you. I have watched all series' and they get funnier as you go along. I would reccomend this to any fan of Paris or Nicole also
This DVD contains 7 episodes and 5 outakes
