Advantages: Explains a lot of the series long running mytharc

Disadvantages: Could often be confusing for those that haven't watched the series

The X-Files - Fight The Future was released back in 1998, and unlike the film 'I Want To Believe' from 2008, it focuses on explaining a lot of the unanswered questions that fans of the series had back when season 5 ended, as opposed to being a story in itself.

Minutes into the film a boy is exposed to the black oil (something that's revealed as the film progresses if you've not seen the series.) and the familiar darkness covers his eyes. From then onwards there's a huge series of events linked with the black oil, the members of the syndicate, (a group conspiring with aliens.) the plans of the aliens, and several important moments for specific characters, as Mulder and Scully try to find out why events happening in the film have been covered up almost without a trace. This might sound confusing to people new to the X-Files, but things are eventually explained that clear things up.

Recommended for fans of conspiracy thrillers and sci-fi, the film is well written, directed, acted, and the story has a quality that many films of it's type lack.

Summary: Well written, directed and acted, essential to fans.
