Open University in general:
... so it all depends on who you are studying with. I am looking forward to summer schools as I will get to meet more people and hopefully behave a bit more like a conventional student during these. The Open University has a student association which you automatically become a member of and as an OU student you are entitled to a student card (costing £10 last time I looked) so you can take advantage of both of thes... Aston University in general ... option). The department is extremely helpful in preparing you for this year, including having a member of staff dedicated to helping sort out your year abroad & being available for support once you re there. You can choose to study abroad, work in a school as a language assistant, or find other employment. I chose to study at Tours University in the Loire Valley & it was a brilliant experience, although I missed home lots! In all years of study at Aston you have certain compulsory modules, & then you choose which other ones you d like to do from a list. There are lots of varied options, for example I did modules on translation & interpreting, the EU, li... Read the full review: A friendly, compact campus university by Deb_C |

Open University in general ... want to say that I would like to give a negative review of the Open University. I have just studied an Openings Course with the Open university, and whilst it wasnt that bad, it wasn t exactly that great either. I think the Open university has the ethos of charging their students loads of money, and getting away with delivering very little, so as to maximise their revenue for the least work possible on their part! Their courses are not cheap. I am sure that at least in certain parts of the UK, where there is a good Further Education college, you could get a relevant course where you have the added benefit of very important interaction face to face with your tutor and ... Royal Holloway College, University of London in general ... Holloway, University of London is a place where I spent three largely happy years. Please don t be fooled by the name however - this college is not in London and it takes 40 minutes on the train to get to London Waterloo. The nightlife is largely non-existent with only the Students Union facilities and a few local (and over-priced) pubs in the vicinity. The SU in recent years has also really started to capitalise on this domination on the market, enforcing policies such as once you leave the SU on a function night, you can t come back unless you buy another ticket (forcing you to stay there all night from an early time so you have to buy your alcohol from them)...
