Advantages: close to uni
Disadvantages: expensive
I spent my first year at solent living in Kimber halls.
Of all the halls at Southampton Solent, these are located nearest to the uni (5 min walk) perfect for rolling out of bed late and running to class!
I had a small single room which consisted of a single bed, a desk with 3 drawers, built in shelves, a big wardrobe, bedside table with 3 drawers.
I chose to pay extra to be in en-suite halls so i had a shower, toilet and sink to myself. I'm glad i chose to do this despite the extra money as it was nice to have the privacy and not to have to run down the corridor wearing a towel!
I also had shared use of a kitchen with 5 other people. This had all you'd expect (fridge, over, microwave etc) as well as 2 cupboards each which you could put a padlock on if you chose.
You are responsible for cleaning your own room but the communal areas are looked after by cleaners.
I would recommend halls when you start uni as it is a good way to make friends, especially with people you wouldn't normally meet!
Summary: Good place to live, but only for 1 year
