AccommodationNewest Review: ... atmosphere when England plays is AMAZING!). The JCR is one of the most active in the University of Manhcester with a muscial and a play every year. We also have two choirs and an orchestra as well as live music nights for guitarists, singers and painists. For those more into their chart music/general p#ss ups, there are noramlly 5 or 6 bops a year and these are FANTASTIC. Some may see it as a dis-advantage having a big party basically in your own home, but being that close to your bedroom can sometimes come in handy....... THe formal ball is no longer held on site, and you pay about the same price to go to a nearby hotel for a great... more |

I've just finished my first year at Hulme Hall and I'm moving back in in September. The other opinion on this website, to which the author is of course totally entitled, is, I feel, a bit biased. I don't think it's fair to say that HH works against UMIST students, especially knowing the catering staff - they serve when they feel like it!! It is further away from UMIST, but for a majority of the 452 students, it's 10 minutes walk from uni. My time here has been fab! There's so much going on, but you're never hassled into taking part. We've got hockey (mixed), rugby, football, and netball teams participating in the ... Read the complete review

Last year I was a Fresher at UMIST. I received the accommodation brouchure in June, it didn’t give very much information about any of the halls in Manchester but did say that the university of Manchester and UMIST shared the Halls of Residence in Manchester, with both sets of students living together. So I made my decision on very little information. I found from the start that Hulme Hall was biased towards University of Manchester students. From us being unable to have network access at the start of the term from either the computer cluster or from our rooms, (this was later solved) to meal times making it so you had to rush from your last lecture at UMIST to ... Now,Im not a very verbose lad,but if this opinion ends up filling this page,i wouldnt be surprised, because i have a lot to say about this hall.Owens park is a catered hall, and at the moment students residing there are both from UMIST and the university of manchester. It is one of the largest halls of residence, and i beleive has the largest student population. I lived in owens park for two years while i was a student, and i can say i quite enjoyed myself. The food is ofcourse nothing compared to home cooked food,as you may expect, but having said that it wasnt too bad either. There are three dining halls, all serving different meals, and you can choose to go to any that you ... In my last week at university and my halls, I decided that it would be useful for people coming to Manchester or UMIST to see what Richmond Park is like. An Unusual Concept ------------------ This concept was pointed out to me as being unusual by one of my friends from London who came to visit me earlier this week. For those of you who have never been to any of the Manchester universities, you will be unfamiliar of the accommodation provided for students. Basically, students at University of Manchester and UMIST share Halls of Residences i.e. a student at UMIST can be living in a University of Manchester Hall of Residence (like me) and a ...
