Advantages: Quite cheap and the best students union I've ever seen

Disadvantages: Dubious rumours but nothing substansiated as to the running and security of the place

The moment I entered the largest part of Edinburgh student union I was amazed.
The bulding is comprised of a massive dome at its centre and various off shoots containing pool rooms, a cloakroom, an arcade room, many various bars and I think a few offices and shops which obviously weren't open on a saturday night.
Upstairs is a vast room with a sound system which out ranks most private culbs I've been in and plays host to a number of top D.Js and bands, the former being what I was there for. I'm not a dance music fan by any means but this was incredible.
When this all gets to much for you you can retire to one of the various other bars or merely sit in the massive quite dome with its ambient lighting and plants.
The drinks are cheap and it si fairly cheap to get in, most nights you don't need to be a student to get in but any university I.D. or form of student card will get you cheaper entry.
A few of the more political students will be quick to tell you that Potterow is tantamount to a privatley run venture as university staff control its running to a certain degree, or so I'm told, as a money making scheme, and alot of non students get in and cause violence on a regular basis when the club shuts at 3:00am on a saturday, but apart from being able to testify to trouble outside, I don't really no much as I'm not a student at Edinburgh myself, just an occaisional visitor.
Never the less, Potterow made me envy Edinburgh students a great deal.
