Advantages: On Campus, Cheap, extended opening on Friday

Disadvantages: Dingy, Cramped, and far too noisy

When you go out for a night on the town, sure you expect to get jostled now and then by other revellers who may have been knocking back the gin and tonics since they finished work for the day. Expectable too is the lack of seating in any drinking establishment found in any area of inner London. However, when it comes to a Student Union, you would expect, perhaps falsly that there would be enough room for more than a handful of students to be able to fit into the Union Bar. Not so at the LSE, where the appropriately named Crush on Friday nights is exactly that. From experience it is not too comfortable and the atmosphere is less than exciting since it is impossible to do anything or move anywhere once (if you are lucky)you find a place to set yourself up for the evening.
However, the Union facilities in this area are improving with a newly revamped area under the bar which serves as an additional place to party the night away and drinks kept to the obligatory cheapness of Student bars. On a nice night, it is even possible to meander outside into the fresh (remember you're in London) air and partake of jollities there. On an ordinary day or evening, the bar- which resembles Ye Olde Country Pub can be tolerable. With events held regularly thorughout the year like the Quiz night every week, you could find yourself forgiving the dinginess and starting to enjoy the uniqueness of the LSE bar.
The location of the LSE mustn't be forgotten however, and being in the centre of London means there is an ample selection of bars for a night out, and unfortunately the Three Tuns in LSE doesn't even try to compete with the allure of more fashionable or larger places.
The Three Tuns is a good place for a cheap drink, but don't stay all night- there's a whole big world out there ready to be explored.

As someone who worked at the Three Tuns for three years I can appreciate its unique character. Its a little small and dark - and Crush is aptly named (luckily the attempt to change it to -Who let the dogs out - failed), but for many of us, its what we have at one time or another called home. Its the nearest your gonna get to a local in London, its cheap, the music is wkd and its fun without hassle. But please - if you are gonna go, be nice to the staff!!!!!
