I am from Italy and was visiting the U.S. and went to matt's bar with my wife and a bunch of friends. The first problem was to find parking spots for 3 cars. After we managed to park and walk to the bar, we were able to sit in a couple of tables. The place was medium full (or medium empty heh) and we ordered the famous jucy lucys. The order was taking more than half and hour for only 3 burgers! The rest of us were having beer and cocktails for the girls. So considering that the waitress never paid any attention to us, we WALKED TO HER and asked about the burgers. She replied with such a rude attitude I thought she was going to hit us! I was schocked, so were my friends. We went there NICELY and got such a terrible response! What a way to treat customers! Even worse, tourists! By the way, people could tell we were tourists :)
Please stay away from that place! You don't want to go through such terrible experience!
At Loughborough University, you are never short of a decent night out at the Union. There is something to suit everyone's taste and is a great way for freshers to meet new people and to get used to the average Loughbrough University students lifestyle. Monday ------ The week starts off with Shananagans. This is the games night. In the audotorium, there is Giant Connect-4 and Giant Jenga. There is also a round of Bingo with cash and beer prizes. There is a PS2 and an N64 set up as well for people to play on with a small variety of games to choose from. The centrepiece of the games is Pi*ster, which to be quite honest is just a game of Twister. It is always fun to watch when people have had a few. Alcoholwise, a wide range of cocktails are served at the bar. Entry is free and it is one of the quieter nights. Tuesday ------- Tuesday night is Stupid Tuesday night. As it is advertised "A pint, a bottle and a Vodka for £2.50 with free entry, we must be stupid!". That just about sums it up. The music is mainly of the cheesy variety but when you've had a few, does it really matter? Wednesday --------- Wednesday night is Hey Ewe, the Athletics Union night. It is where the sports men and women go after they have (usually) won their BUSA game. They are themed nights with examples being foam parties and Bog Racing. If you get a Hey Ewe card at the start of term for £1, you can also get certain drinks for a pound a time. Entry is £1 with a Hey Ewe card, otherwise, it's £2. It does get very busy but once your in, you don't want to come out. Thursday -------- Live music night. Lots of local bands strutting their stuff looking for that road to fame. When they do make it, at least you can say you saw them before they were famous! Entry is free. Friday ------ Friday Night Disco (FND) is the biggest night of the week. Everyone in the uni seems to conve
rge on the union for what is widely regarded as one of the biggest events of its kind in the country. Every week, there is a guest DJ spinning the tunes and occasionally, the club tours like the Ministry of Sound do the night. If you go to the Bocca Bar, from ten, one of the campus radio station's top DJs does a live set which is also very popular but a lot quiter that downstairs! Entry is £2.50 for NUS members before 10pm and £3.50 after, guests are £4.00. The queues for the bars are massive so get a couple of drinks at a time. Saturday -------- Saturday night starts off with the Comedy Club. Again, these comedien(ne)s are looking for that road to fame, just like the live bands on a Thursday. It is a good laugh and helps you forget about that coursework you must do on Sunday! Following that is either the Platform 70s night or Temptation 80s night. These alternate on a weekly basis and fancy dress is very popular! Entry for the night is £3 for NUS members and £4.00 for guests. Sunday ------ Sunday is cinema night. Every Sunday, there are two showings of a top film. One at 5:30 and one at 7:30. Entry is £1 for Flix members otherwise it is £2. It is one of the few cinemas in the country where you are allowed to drink alcohol which is a good thing!! So there is a week in the life of Loughborough Students Union. It is what makes Loughborough one of the most popular universities in the country.
Loughborough University is a campus-based university and in theory there is no need too ever leave the campus in your entire University career. Many of the main halls of residence have a bar attached to them and the price of beer is very reasonable (student prices). There is also a very large Student Union building that contains four or five bars. The Friday Night Disco (FND) is arguably the highlight of the Unions weekly activities but every night has a different event on at the Union, ranging from a Cinema Size screen at the film club to a free band night. The only slight drawback that I found, it may have changed since I was there, was the fact that even though it is a huge university we never got the big acts to perform there. It didn?t mater though because the atmosphere was, and still is great.
Oh my word! Very bright and lively on student nights or at the weekend. A favourite amongst those wishing to get lashed on the cheap! Tequila ridiculously cheap although I wouldn't advise the lemon and sugar from the bar as many an unwashed urine laden hand has probably passed over it! The place is very big with an upstairs that they open when it is busy. They also have two distinct rooms that play two extremes of music. On a Tuesday they hold a range of bizarre competitions that range from getting naked to eating dog food or worse. Women are always encouraged to partake and many a chest has been bared there! Generally I would say that Busters is a place for getting drunk before moving on elsewhere. I wouldn't stay too long as you might get dragged into its world of seed and actually start to like the place!
One of the classic Loughborough institutions, Matts bar offers unrivalled seediness in what is actually a dive of a pub but still seems to pack the punters in. There are generally no rules in the pub and so by eight o'clock the wooden cover is laid over the pool table and the music turned up. Dancing on the tables, naked-ness and whatever else you can think of......you will see it all at Matts Bar. The drink is average but you get the added value of a free shot with most bottles bought and there are usually special offers on draughts too (you will get a pint for £1.50 most nights!). Matts bar is tucked away off the main drag near the town centre Tesco's. If you are in the mood for a good laugh and generally to party get along to Matts bar which gets especially busy on a Wednesday as students go in prior to the likes of Echos or club XS as it is now called. One of the best pub/bars in the town!
The Forest Gate on Forest Road is close to the university campus and is a Toby pub (owned by Bass). The atmosphere is that of a friendly local and it is a ?traditional? pub. The range of drinks is as would be expected from a standard pub with what is generally a good pint. The food is well known in the locality. In particular the carvery deal is very good. £5.95 for a starter or a desert and a carvery in which you help yourself to as much veggies as you want. The portions are mammoth as many a hungry student who has strayed off the university campus will tell. The pub holds regular quiz?s, karaoke and the like. In all a good all rounder that serves a good pint. Not the best place for a big night out.
