Newest Review: ... drunkenly stumble into it, it is fairly difficult to find. It's sort of down a small street opposite the club Infinity. When you look down these alleyways in search of it make sure you look up because there is a small sign saying 'Down Under' protruding from the wall, that is your only indication of where it is. Right, about the place. It is an Australian theme bar open till 2am most days. It's not that big and is below street level. In fact the windows at the top of the bar are about pavement level. There's a couple of T.V's, the usual tables and chairs, table football and best of all two leather couches, Whey Hey... more

Premium Review Bars & Entertainment: Down Under in Manchester (327 words)
by - written on 12/06/01 (Very useful, 62 readings)

While on a pub crawl earlier this year my flatmate and I stumbled across a well hidden bar in the middle of Manchester that went by the name of Down Under. This first encounter is very hazy within my memory because the pub crawl had started in the Orange Grove in Fallowfield, so we had visited at least ten pubs/bars prior to our entry to Down Under. Unless you know where it is or drunkenly stumble into it, it is fairly difficult to find. It's sort of down a small street opposite the club Infinity. Premium Review Jabez Clegg (186 words)

Jabez Clegg, which is situated just off Oxford Road opposite the University Refectory, is a large, relaxing pub during the day, serving home cooked food and inexpensive beer. Built in the late 19th Century, the traditional red brick building is said to house it's very own ghost... just ask the barstaff about flying glasses and banging doors! It may be dark inside, but that's half it's appeal. You can come in and forget about the troubles going on outside.... had a rotten exam? sat through the dullest lecture of your life? Jabez Clegg seems to make you forget there actually is an outside world and all of a sudden it's drinking up time! ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bars & Entertainment: crusty dancing (403 words)

Manchester clubs in the early to mid 90s catered for two mutually exclusive groups: the raver, itself sub-divided into cheesy and crusty, one on vicks and dodgy pills while the other would dip into his bag of mushrooms all night, and the smart clubber: cocaine, champagne and Italian shoes. Underneath this club scene was what would be dubbed by the media 'Gunchester': gunfights outside clubs, tear gas attacks on dancefloors, and a lot of people having a very bad time. I have to admit that I fell into the former category, although my shirts-off, hands-in-the-air days were thankfully short. Coming from London, where I'd been to the same high-tech club ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Robinskis (130 words)

Anyone who is going, is still there or has already left you will know how much fun the yellow pub on the corner in Fallowfield is! I know that after going every tuesday night in the first year you swear that you will never go again but wait until the finals arrive and all you want to do is go out and get pissed without any bother of having to wear proper shoes or losing your mates - then Robinskis is the place to go! You can drink double vodka Hoochs and Baboon Arses all you want and dance to Britney and 5ive and not care and nor will any one else in the morning. So shake your booties down to the local disco and pull for Britain! ...  Read the complete review
