Advantages: Cheap, Amazing
Disadvantages: None
So, I have just finished my first year at Newcastle University and as such, I have experienced the many different bars and clubs that Newcastle has to offer, so I feel I am all too experienced to review the city's nightlife.
Now, we will start with value for money, that is, if you want a cheap night out in Newcastle there are some tips here that will help you along. Obviously for a cheap night out you can't expect the best quality, which is why you have to start out at Sinners if you are planning on going out in the centre of Newcastle. Sinners is located very near The Gate and is usually packed full of students starting a cheap night out, the reason so many go there is because it'sfree to get in, and you can buy trebles (house vodka, gin, white rum or whisky) for £2 a pop. Great value there, the vodka is absolutely vile but you can't complain at that price. Now, the place itself is horrendous, it's a shabby place with a sticky floor, tattered sofas and i'll have to wanr you off the upstairs male toilets, they are to be avoided at all costs. But it's fine because you don't have to stay in there long.
After Sinners you will probably want to go to a club, I will recommend a few here, Blu Bambu is good for all the Top 40 music lovers and is just down the road from Sinners, across from Pizza Hut. Go there on a Wednesday and you can blag your way in for free by saying you're on the sports team. Drinks are pretty cheap in there and they have offers up on the board which are great sometimes (Double JD and Coke for £1.50).
Digital is always good, it's a bit big for my liking but you're never short of people to dance with or music to dance to.
Tiger Tiger is also a big one, 3 floors I think it's spread across with all the music genres you could ever want in a club. This is just near The Gate,as in, right next to it.
Liquid is another place you can go, it's very cheap there on Thursday nights but I wouldn't recommend it simply because it's usually full of idiots looking for a fight.
Legends is always good on a Wednesday night, it's not that cheap in there but it feels more personal than the bigger clubs, with a murky, underground feel to it that's pretty cool.
Cosmic Ballroom is a very small club located in Chinatown, just across from Aspers Casino (Unfortunately haha). It gets very busy in there and drinks are quite expensive but if you love Drum n Bass music this is the place to be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Now, if you're down by Quayside there is only one decent club to go to really, and that's Sea. i'd recommend getting there early though, because queues can get gigantic for that place, especially on a Friday! I'd recommend going and getting in and going out through the smoking area, collecting a stamp on the way and walking out of the back. Then you can head to either Chase bar or Flynns bar, both do a higher quality vodka than Sinners and are generally a nicer place to be. It's £5 for 3 trebles in both bars and they are jammed with students usually.
Away from Quayside but going out of the centre of the city you can find Revolutions, which is a pricy sort of bar but quite classy. You get all sorts of wonderful cocktails being sold in this place and you can buy food there aswell.
Near Revolution there is Floritas, a bar/nightclub which is another classy place compared to the rest. It's quite expensive in here as well compared to everywhere else but it's not extortionate. One problem there is i've found the bouncers can be a bit ignorant and idiotic at times.
Overall, Newcastle is an amazing city with an amazing nightlife, there are too many bars and clubs to list so i've just given a short review on the ones I am most familiar with.
Summary: Very cheap city with a great nightlife

- 20/06/09 I don't think it is, but there's Maddison's. In fact that might be the same place, really nice cocktails, sofas and a brilliant happy hour deal. |

- 19/06/09 Is Bar Tokyo still going? I used to like cocktails in there for happy hour. |
