Expensive Beer!! (Bars & Entertainment)
Member Name: Dr_Evil
Advantages: Something for everyone Disadvantages: Venue not big enough to attract the biggest bands.
The bars and entertainment at the University of Warwick are centered around the Student Union which is fairly large and was extended during 1998/9. You may expect as a Student Union the beer prices would be low and I have heard stories of other Universities where Beer was a pound a pint or less. At Warwick however, Beer prices are almost as high as most pubs so this is not a major attraction of the various bars. The Union has various different nights although Monday is the big night on Campus when all the cheesy 80's and 90's music is brought out for the weekly 'Top Banana' event. On Friday night the University night club holds a more traditional club night, called The Function, with all the latest Dance music. Ocassionaly bands play in the Union and during my time there they had bands such as Skunk Anansie, Mansun, Shed Seven and an infinite supply of cover bands. The University does suffer from being reasonably close to the NEC and other Birmingham venues meaning they miss out on many of the bigger bands. On Saturday night upcoming bands play at an event called 'Whipround' and bands to have played include Oasis who played a set in 1994 prior to the release of their first single, Supersonic. Summary: |
