Advantages: Good course., A beach - but not an exciting one., Good support.

Disadvantages: Expensive., High rent.

I graduated from Bournemouth University in 1997 with a BSc in Clinical Nursing, and this is my opinion on my 3 years there.

Firstly, the positive aspects. My course was excellent, taught to a high standard, clinical placements at the hospitals were appropraiate and varied. The lecturers on the whole were friendly, knowledgeable and interesting. I enjoyed my degree and as a university goes I felt that the facilities and support were near perfect.

Now, why would I never return again?

As a student ... a genuinely poor student...I felt very uneasy in Bournemouth as most of my colleagues came from much richer backgrounds. Bournemouth itself I found to be ridiculously expensive place - everything from rent, transport, nightlife, food was costly. Now, most of my colleagues could afford it, but I had to take out the full student loans to get by. And I am still paying for them.

I didn't find Bournemouth particularly a warm or friendly place. Although others would disagree - I guess it depends what you are used to.

So, my personal opinion to summarise is "yes, I would recommend the university", but save plenty of money up first because you will certainly need it. Compared to the northern universities, it is not a place for good value.
