City University in generalNewest Review: ... music, taking modules in Jewish Music, Indonesian Music and Latin American Music Performance. As a University, I also had a great time, the students union has had alot of money ploughed into it recently and I believe they are focusing alot on events for students. It often gets some bad press because many City students tend to take advantage of the other London events rather than going out to Union organised events, however, I always had a good time at whatever was available. Services for Students have also invested alot of money in a new student centre - making support for students, both international and home, second to none.... more |

I studied Music at City and I have to say, I'm so glad I did. The music course is amazing, although I do know that there have been changes to it since I left in 2004. There is a big focus on elements of music that you tend not to get in many of the other big names in Music Education. For example, I was able to study alot of world music, taking modules in Jewish Music, Indonesian Music and Latin American Music Performance. One of the great things is it's location, there's always something to do in London, and City University is near the heart of the action. However the university does not feature particularly highly in the league tables and that?s because some other departments are weak. When I was there, other structural weaknesses existed. The buildings look quite nice outside but are a bit dingy within. The students union is not very active, which might be a strength actually, and ... Read the complete review

The City university is a relative newcomer, being a fully fledged university for only 30 odd years. Based between "leafy" Islington and The City of London it is a compact, non-campus, university. I enjoyed studying [optics] at City and felt at home within the (comparatively) small student community. University accommodation was well maintained and realistically priced (for London). Academic standards are good, but I feel that there is a lack of computer facilities, especially within university halls. On the positive side the new library is excellent. The social life revolves almost entirely around London itself, with the union and hall bars ... Read the complete review
