Advantages: Good courses and lecturers
Disadvantages: Small resources
Introduction:
~~~~~~~~~~
Being a current third year at this university, I am delighted that I can write a review of this academic institute. Note that most of this review only applies to the Mathematics Department and not on other courses available in this University. If you are after a different subject. You are most probably better off by just kindly rating and heading over to another review on dooyoo. Else, lets see what this university has to offer.
Available Shops/ Services:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The available shops to eat in this university vary each year. At the time of writing this guide. There is One small Costa shop inside with a small space to eat with, only a few chairs and tables.
If you are with a larger group, you can head down to the expensive cafateria and have a bite at the sandwiches, international food, pizzas, chicken and many more vegetarian dishes. They is a wide selection to choose from but after a while it does tend to get a bit boring.
If you are only wanting to have a quick bite, you can use the vending machines that are situated around the university or visit the small corner shop near the cafe which sells sandwiches and light refreshments.
The New Student union has opened now and there you can grab a big portion of food for an excellent low price. Its worth going here to either chill out or purchase some cheap filling food. Obviously, the quality of the food here is to be questioned. But as students, as long as we are full up its fine.
Lectures:
~~~~~~~~
The lectures is normally consisted of the lecturer standing at the front while the students listen. Normally they will hand out coursework or assignments for the student to do. It is around 2 CW per term on average.
The lecturers are really helpful if you know who to find. Alot are willing to explain difficult concepts that was covered in class and show you extra material that can aid your learning.
Classrooms:
~~~~~~~~~
There are many different classrooms around the campus. With big halls such as the OTLT or the Great hall. These are spaceous and comfortable for lectures.
The other small lecture halls and classrooms are not bad sizes too. Although the desks in some are rather small. But its this size that lets the whole class fit into one room.
There is hardly any damage around the campus so you can be assured that you will be in a nice environment.
Halls Of Residence:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Covered in my other Review]
Facilities:
~~~~~~~~~
The library in the University has 6 levels. Each level has its own sound rating with Level 6 being the silent study room. The available spaces on each floor is enough to supply the ever changing students room to do research and homework. The available books to rent is adequate but could use a little work with adding more in.
The Computer Labs located around the campus is big enough to host your every needs. They are nicely furnished with the latest windows and software installed. Each Print will cost you 5p.
The general office for the department however lacks organisation and meaning. They take a while to sort out your mail and work to be handed back and normally enquiries take a while to complete too.
Costs:
~~~~~~
A normal program will cost you around £3000 to study per year with international students costing around £10,000.
There are Scholarships available for academic students who achieve a good percent each year. The Scholarship range rom £500-£2,500 depending on wheather you are an international or home student.
Summary:
~~~~~~~
All in All, this University is good for the Mathematics Degree. The Tests are good as they follow past years trends. So as long as you learn the basics and do past papers you can get a 2.1 here with a some work. For First Hon, you will need to be doing alot of extra work and revision.
This university also excel in the employment after studying area and is ranked top 5 in employment.
8/10 - A good University to Study Mathematics

- 17/01/09 I have been to visit this uni many time as my friends went there and it is OK. In terms of a campus, it does not really have one and seems more like a high school with a few buildings and library. But the people seem great and best of luck with ur degree. |
