Columbia University in general

The past reviewer was incorrect in stating that Columbia is near Brooklyn. First of all, Columbia is nearest the end of Manhattan farthest from Brooklyn. Second, Brooklyn is actually pretty well-regarded right now. The price of apartments is skyrocketing, and the area is actually generally quite safe. The reviewer was perhaps referring to the fact that Columbia is near Harlem. Columbia is located on Manhattan in between the Upper West Side (a VERY expensive and nice part of Manhattan) and Harlem in a neighborhood called Morningside Heights. One thing I can say about American univeristies - they sure do look impressive. In general I dislike the structure of American courses - they are too broad in the beginning as there is not a proper high school course structure over all the states. I stayed in Columbia University 'Wein Hall' during my orientation course prior to work experience. The place was a pit. Inside a nice stone building the rooms were grotty, with rusting metal beds with thin mattresses. Battle-scarred pieces of wooden furniture littered the room.
