Advantages: Vast possibilities for course choices, Many good teachers, Good reputation
Disadvantages: Contraints on your time, Threatens your love life
I have been a CS student at UCL for the past two years. UCL is known for its very vibrant student life. Great parties are taking place almost every day of the week and become an hour of duty on most students timetables. As a CS student at UCL you may forget about all these nice leisure activities. The course is very hard. Courseworks are difficult and certainly become more challenging as time moves on. The workload will severly impair your ability to manage your time efficiently. It has become customary to stand outside the department with your fellow students and mourn for the lost life and fun you once used to have. Well, so why do all these people stick to this course and ruin their young lifes? Having said that the course is very difficult and demanding has some meaning on the other side of the tunnel as well. You will learn a lot during your time at UCL. If you are interested in this area hardly any other university in the UK will be able to offer you such a splendid intellectual environment to pursue your interest to the extreme. The courses on offer from which you can choose are vast. The curriculae are updated regularly and the contents are up to date at all times. Most of the lecturers are good teachers as well which is not to be taken for granted at uni. Being a good teacher is a kind of an art or a gift, whatever pleases you more. You may rest assured that you will be challenged almost every week. And I mean challenged. You will have to work hard to surpass you boundaries. And it is still possible to have a social life. I would say that if you are looking for a challenge, are really interested in the subject and are an energetic person that is not put back when hearing the phrase: "Work hard, play hard", then CS at UCL is certainly the place to be. And last but certainly not least, as many UCL CS graduates can assure you, most jobs will be easy for you compared to what has been asked of you in uni. Best prospect
s, innit?
