There are many people who are put off the OU because they think that they have to go to sumer schools.

This is not the case as many courses do not have them and as you do not have to take a foundation course any more you can complete some degrees without attending any. even if you course has one there are many reasons for which you can get an excusal eg children under 5 disability So it is worth asking your regional centre if you can apply for an excusal if that is all that is stopping you from doing the course

However as a veteran of 9 visits to Reading, Nottingham and Cardiff universities ( Brighton next week so expect another review!!) I must stress that I feel that they are a wonderful oppurtunity to meet other students and get some first class tutoring as well as getting your hands on some excellent lab equipment if your a scientist like me. If you want to carry on your education at other instiutions its worth remembering to get references off your Summer school dfirectors because these personal references can then be tied up with your academic qualifications.
