Advantages: good resources, nice city, good transportation

Disadvantages: very hilly, not disabled friendly, bad atmosphere

I have just started a degree course at King Alfred's in Winchester. As a day student i.e I do not live on campus I have found my first few weeks problematic to say the least. As a physically disabled student the campus is far from ideal. Having been built on one great big hill, to walk from the bottom to the top can take the average person about half an hour. The buildings are old and antequated with hardly any disabled access. The teaching rooms are small and crowded which makes you feel as though you're back at school. The students Union seems anything but friendly, apart from the Pres Michelle who seems quite nice. The bar is dank and depressing and unless you're a regular you're treated as a social outcast. Due to its subject range humanities and sports courses, the population is female dominated and the guys who are there are either rugger buggers, old or a touch on the femenine side. The staff seem nice enough but unable to offer any real or useful help.
As an off campus student it is difficult to get to know anybody as there are no clubs or fascilities set up to meet in a social setting. There are a high proportion of mature students' too who seem to lack any kind of representation or cohesion.
The only positive things I can say about the place is that library and computer resources are of a first rate standard and that my particular course (Theology, RE and Education Studies) is challenging and its a fairly reputable college to a degree from. On the whole King Alfred's is unlikely to live up to any students' idea of what Uni should be.

Babe, you're obviously mixing with the wrong people. The ruggers boys are good friends of mine and great lads. did you view Kalfs before deciding to go there? let your hair down and have a great time!x
