Advantages: Study from the comfort of home with great course material

Disadvantages: Quite a long time to complete it.

I have been with the Open University for 5 years now, and I'm more than pleased to say this is my final year of my law degree!!!!

Altogether the degree takes 6 years to complete, although it is quite simple to do the first 2 years worth of work in 1 year to knock this number down to 5 years. I found, as my first degree level of study, the OU have been brilliant.

For a start, the financial backing. For each year of study I have been eligeable for financial assistance (having a salary under £15,000.00 a year) and have had to contribute a couple of hundred towards course fees, but receiving around £1,000.00 for travel and books.

The actual course is split into an introduction to law, law: the individual and the state, and then onto contracts, land law, etc. You get lots of course material for your studies and everything is explained well. My only criticism is that it would be nice to have weekly, rather than monthly, lectures, and it does take quite some time (particularly if you want to become a solicitor and go on to do the LPC).

Summary: An option to look at for those unable to go to uni.
