Loughborough University in generalNewest Review: ... as well as several other subjects. Another area in which Loughborough University is very strong is in it's overall student experience. Loughborough is a great place to live and is renowned for being an amazingly fun place to spend your time at university which is reflected in the fact that it has won the 'best student experience' award for the last two years running. Loughborough University is also famous for having the biggest and the best student's union in the country which hosts many great nights out and events during the year. As any former student will confirm, Loughborough really is a fantastic university to study at.... more |

I have recently completed 4 excellent years at Loughborough University, an institution which has been moving from strength to strength in recent times. When you mention Loughborough to people, most of them immediately think of sport, but there is much more to the university than just its excellent sporting achievements and facilities. While the sport aspect of Loughborough will always remain as a major selling point, in recent years the university has been improving rapidly on the academic side of things. Loughborough is currently ranked as the number one university in the country for engineering and is one of the best in the country for IT and mathematics as well as ... Read the complete review

I spent three fantastic years at Loughborough University. I chose it after looking around quite a few different Uni's (including Lancaster, Aston, Bradford, Hull) and finding it by far the most enticing. The fact that I really like my sport swayed me as the facilities at Loughborough are excellent (they win most competitions amongst universities). The campus is also excellent and has a real community feel. I'd like to say that all of the halls are nice but the one I got landed with in the first year really wasn't. I got placed in Elvyn Richards halls and I think they may have been the oldest ones. The rooms were pokey and facilities were substandard. However, ... Read the complete review

So then, is Loughborough all it is cracked up to be? Well, in terms of league tables there can be no complaints as the University consistently tops Sports competitions and produce some of the UK's greatest talents in a variety of different sports. From an academic point of view the place seems to pull its weight too. Surely thats perfect then? What more could you want then? Well anybody that has been to University knows that there is A LOT more to life than good lectures and the chance to play plenty of sport. I will discuss in the main body. First impressions are important, they really are, and this is why I am most disappointed for deciding ... Read the complete review

Yes it leaves a scar on your soul, or in my case on your head like Harry Potter (Harry Potter didn't crack his head open after drinking 15 pints of the wonderful 'Nasty' however!). If that first sentence didn't sum up 'The Loughborough University Experience' then I shall elaborate... Loughborough is a University town in Leicestershire, within a trains (or Taxi if your pockets are that deep) ride to Derby, Nottingham or Leicester. You will probably never venture this far whilst at Loughborough though since you will soon become content with the meat market that is Loughborough town or you shall wallow in the cheap but most ... Well, what can I say, I've now been here 12 years - eek! Let’s get the stats out of the way shall we? Loughborough University now has some 12000 students and 3000 staff and is largely campus based (just the odd straggler of a hall or two in town). If you don’t know, Universities or rather their departments, are assessed for both their research and teaching every few years and Loughborough currently has an average of 22.5 out of 24 for teaching and over 4 out of 5 for research. Whilst these are pretty meaningless to most of us what it does mean is that whether you are planning on doing an Undergraduate or Postgraduate course at Loughborough or ... Read the complete review
