Disadvantages: Not exactly a major city but bloomin good links, Sport mentalists
Yes it leaves a scar on your soul, or in my case on your head like Harry Potter (Harry Potter didn't crack his head open after drinking 15 pints of the wonderful 'Nasty' however!).
If that first sentence didn't sum up 'The Loughborough University Experience' then I shall elaborate...
Loughborough is a University town in Leicestershire, within a trains (or Taxi if your pockets are that deep) ride to Derby, Nottingham or Leicester. You will probably never venture this far whilst at Loughborough though since you will soon become content with the meat market that is Loughborough town or you shall wallow in the cheap but most certainly cheerful prices that the Student's Union offer on a range of 'make you so drunk, you can't move' beverages.
The Nasty is the drink of choice whilst you are at Loughborough. It's a concoction of Cider, Lager and Blackcurrant that never does taste the same when you try to make it yourself from cans. It also makes being sick a more colourful experience and going for a green poo the next day is always a bonus.
Oh yes, the University... It's a wonderful place if you are very sport mad as Loughborough is a centre of excellence for sport and are building a whole load of new facilities (all used to be green fields in my day). If world class sporting facilities are your thing then Loughborough is the place for you. If you just want to do a 'normal' degree that doesn't involve sport in any way then it is the place to be too (as long as you can put up with people out on a run at 2am as you are trying to work out how to stagger in the right way so you can get home). I did Computer Science (you may be able to read about this if I get round to writing a review about it on Dooyou) and the course was very well supported by a decent Computer Science Department.
I would recommend that you stay in halls as long as possible whilst at Loughborough a
s the hall spirit is one of the great qualities that Loughborough has going for it. Loughborough University is a very large campus based University so you feel very safe whilst wandering around in a drunken state - it's 2pm, shouldn't you be in a lecture now? You get to meet so many people if you stay in halls and is a great way for Freshers to make friends and loosen up a bit.
The Students Union is a great place for cheesy music and cheap alcohol. It has been modernised upstairs in the past year but it still retains the Lufbra crappiness that we all come to know and love.
Town is great as a more expensive alternative night out if you want to expose yourself to more exotic STDs and Loughborough wouldn't be the same without it.
Mario's, the post-Union kebab man is still resident for all you Lufbrites although he seems to be moving further away from the Union as the years go by. Soon he will be in competition with the local Harvester.
Ok, Loughborough University drinks the most alcohol per person in the country. Surely that's all you need to know?
I could keep going on about how good this place is but you really got to spend a night there to find out for yourself.
