Advantages: Do it in your own time

Disadvantages: Demanding on your time

Anyone can start a degree course with the Open University. There are no entry requirement but you do need to be able to pay for it unless you can get a grant (not easy), or your employer will pay for it. It's not cheap.

Having said all that, once you get started the problems really begin. Studying through the OU has to be the hardest way there is of getting a degree. You have to juggle constantly with work, children and other obligations and remember to get up at the crack of dawn to watch TV programmes. Then, when you are tired out by all this, you can't go to bed because you need to watch another TV broadcast late at night.

It is so hard to do all this at once that those who have made it through deserve our admiration.
