I recently decided that i wanted to go down a different career path but wasnt sure how to go about that as i worked full time and couldnt attend college. My mum told me about the Open University and how i could study for courses i was interested in and gain a recognised qualification without it affecting my work as it was all distance learning. So i signed up for one of the opening courses which is a short course, these are there to give you an idea on whether the subject you have chosen is right for you and how you are able to cope with the study. I was able to carry on working full time a devote 4 or 5 hours a week to the course, i had an excellent tutor who rang me on set dates to discuss my progress and help with any problems. I passed this course which gave me plenty of confidence as i hadnt studied in over 15 years.

So i decided to continue my studies and am currently near the end of a longer level 1 course, the DD100, Introduction to Social Science. On each course you are sent course materials, assignment booklets, calendars, dvds and audios to help throughout. I also have a tutor who i can email and ring but who also does fortnightly tutorials at the local university in an evening which i am able to attend. I am really glad that i have managed to get back into studying and now have a focus on what i want to do with my life. Without the OU i would of continued working in a job where i would be stuck with no where to go & not being able to progress.

As i am also on a low income the OU has also helped me financially and have so far paid for my course in full, if this hadnt been the case it would of been difficult to continue studying but now i have plenty of options available to me. I can safely say the OU does make studying very addictive.

Summary: Suitable for all
