OU law courses (Open University in general)

Advantages: Can do the hours you like. Disadvantages: Lots Having taken the science foundation course years ago, I was pleased with the OU as the tutor seemed to be passionate about teaching and encouraged the students. He had spent plenty of time to hand write feedback for the assignments. As I was encouraged from my previous experience, I decided to sign up for the law course and it was completely different. I think they only do the job as it gives them free access (with my money) to the legal data base for their work outside of the OU, that they would have to pay lots of money for otherwise. The course is quite expensive at nearly £2000 a year and there isn't the summer school that most other courses have. There's one tutorial a month for a few hours at the weekend, although one tutor said he didn't have time to provide the full time, and shortened the hours. The foundation course was the most pleasing to me, as it was at a location that wasn't too far, but after the foundation course I had to travel over 60 miles. One tutor seemed so arrogant that when I questioned the grades, instead of being helpful so I could improve, he started acting in a pathetic way to make my life more difficult. I'm going to complain and if they offer me a free year or action against the tutor, then I will remove my review, but if they don't then it means they only care about ripping people off with bad service to the students. Summary: Money goes on giving tutors free access to legal data bases while not giving good teaching quality. |
