Advantages: Work and study at the same time!
Disadvantages: You have to be able to work alone as there is less one on one support compared to others.
I started my Open University course last October, in the hope I will eventually complete a degree (BSc) in IT with Business. In order to acheive a degree with the Open Uni, as with most others, you have to complete various courses from Level 1,2 and 3 totaling to 360 points.
This year I am studying two Level 1 courses (T175 and M150). I have so far found both courses extremely interesting. Unlike most other universites you are able to study the courses in your own time around your current work and family commitments. This is great for me as I already run two businesses and am able to work on my own. All the course meterial is sent direct to your home and the StudentHome website is a fantastic resource which includes all course guides, calendars and regional forums.
In my opinion the Open Uni is fantastic for those who are unable to dedicate blocks of time each week to study. As you do not need to attend lectures or tutorials it is great if you are already too busy in life. But be aware you need to be able to study on your own and keep up with the work without someone teeling you to do so.
The Open Uni is great but not suited to everyone. If you need that personal real life support when it comes to learning I would suggest a 'normal' uni but if you can get on with it yourself than this is the place for you!
Summary: I am loving it so far! I will update this review as I progress through my degree.
