Advantages: Flexible, Reasonably inexpensive, Excellent support

Disadvantages: None that spring to mind

After two or three years of contemplation, two years ago I finally decided to, if not take the plunge, then certainly dip my toe into the Open University's pool of further education courses.
I initially took part in one of their 'Openings' courses which are designed to give you a taste of how the OU works, and work it did, I was hooked. The materials both for the Openings course, and the first year course I took were very well presented, and made even subjects that were totally new to me such as philosophy not only accessible, but enjoyable.
The prospect of tutorials, and a residential school can be daunting particularly if like myself you are a newcomer to university life. I can assure you however, that they are both hugely enlightening and enjoyable. Studying at home can also be a worry to some, the support I received from not only the OU but from other students is excellent.
So if you are considering taking the plunge, do so. Be prepared for some hard work, and give you partner a photograph of yourself, they may not see you for a little while. The satisfaction gained however makes any little sacrifice worthwhile. Enjoy!!!!

I've done a few courses with the OU in the past and I've always found them excellent. Welcome to Dooyoo!

I have an OU degree myself - you're right it is lots of hard work. It can also be a problem studying at home - too many distractions! However, if you're determined enough, the OU will provide you with the help you need to succeed. Employers also tend to look favourably on job applicants with an OU degree as it shows them you're willing to learn new skills and have put yourself out to do so.

Very nice op.

Ziggy.
