Advantages: You can work at your own pace and fit studying around other committments

Disadvantages: Often some distance to travel to tutorials

I have recently completed my BSc degree with The Open University despite having suffered from Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (a.k.a M.E.) for the past seven years. As a special needs student, I found that the service offered by the O.U.was excellent.Having registered on each of the six courses which comprised my degree, I was sent a questionnaire asking about any special requirements which I might have.In my case, I had difficulty attending tutorials and every effort was made to ensure that I received at least one tutorial at home.I was also allowed to take my exams at home, with an invigilator, and allowed agreed rest breaks during the exam. The Open University is just that - open to everyone, regardless of any disability. There is a misapprehension that Open University degrees are somehow "second class". I have found that prospective employers are extremely impressed with my O.U degree, simply because they realise that I have been sufficiently motivated to "better myself" in my own time.I would urge anyone to contact the O.U, safe in the knowledge that they will do everything in their power to HELP.

Well said. As a new OU student (MSC in Computing in Commerce) it's nice to know that the people you are dealing with have the right attitude towards caring for people, and their requirements. Good luck with the rest of the course!

just noticed that you are doing MSc in forensic psychology -which appeals to me(I love cognition D309 was fascinating and also did D315, as I had hoped to work within the criminal area. Are you doing this with the O.U.? or at college? I would prefer to study from home as not too well at the moment. If you get time i'd appreciate it my email is a.sanchez@lycosmail.com
