Advantages: Fantastic opportunities culturally i.e film showings, volunteering.

Disadvantages: Quite snobby, no one really does anything "normal" i.e sports/union drinks (although you can in ulu)

SOAS is what seems to be a typical univeristy experience; whereby the students spend their time arguing over Marxism whilst having a smoke. SOASians are known for their political persuasion to the left which means there is an active union always protesting.

A typical day would be going to a lecture on development economics, persian, max weber or something of that sort, followed by alot of reading, and a nice evening of afrobeat at the JCR then maybe a dubstep party at halls. One of the societies, for example, that I'm involved in is going on a road trip to Timbuktu this summer.

You can find your own village within London, with the main building being in Russell Square and the main halls being close to Islington. So you can take London at your own pace, either clubbing in the west or east end, or cycling to Primrose Hill.

Be warned though, although the atmosphere is enticing at first, you can grow tired of the novelty and the pseuds that encompass extremism. For a university experience as far away from your weekly drink at wetherspoons can be, SOAS is a good start.

Summary: SOAS is a cliche, but one I love.
