Sports & SocietiesNewest Review: ... edge of the city center, about 15 minutes cycling journey. The court room (basketball, indoor football, volley ball and badminton - all in one big room) is located at the Campus, under the Union building. Near the court room, in the same building, there is one gym room (with all the new equipments), several squash court, judo room, table tennis room and of course bath rooms. Right, sounds very complete. Now if you want to use any of these facilities, you have to pay. To be honest, I don't mind paying money. However it is very expensive though. If you want to use the gym room and the courts (including the squash courts) you have to pay... more |

I don't deny that the Sports facility we have in this Southampton is really great and to be proud of. However sometimes the Union Sports give me a feeling that they are a bit money minded. Why do I say that? There are several areas for sports, located at different places. The swimming pool is located at the New College which is at the edge of the city center, about 15 minutes cycling journey. What I loved the most about the Student Union in Southampton was their so called own home cinema. This is conducted in a room called the Debating Chamber in the Students Union, which I pressume holds debates, meetings etc..I only ever go there for the movies! For the price of 10 pounds per academic year you get a ticket to see about 40 movies. (this was 2 yrs back, I have left Southampton now and I dont know if it has changed) They are of course, not the latest releases (but not too old too), however, it is great if you want to catch up on those films that you missed or watch your favourite ones a second or third or fourth..time. :) Movies are shown ... For sports enthusiasts, this university provides numerous facilities. First of all, there are a whole range of clubs and societies ranging from american football, self-defense, parachuting, sailing to caving for students. Self defence classes are also being conducted in the main campus on one of the big courts. On top of that, there is also a swimming pool and tennis courts. For sailing enthusiasts, there is a boat club which ... Read the complete review

You name it, and you will probably find it in University of Southampton. The clubs activities ranging from art, dances, body building, field sports, indoor sports, advanturous sports (such as paraglidding, caving) and religious so many that you will not be able to try them even though you spend 4 or 5 years doing your degree here, trust me! Besides, if you are a foreign student, don't worry, you will find your club here (e.g. chinese student society, singaporean society, malaysian student society ...) You can visit http://www.soton.ac.uk/services/clubs.html for clubs and societies, and please point your mouse to http://www.soton.ac.uk/menus/mvmenu.html ... Read the complete review
