Advantages: Meeting new people, International Experiences, Socials

Disadvantages: Time-consuming

Strathclyde offers a wide variety of Clubs and Societies for its students. Freshers are faced with a wide choice at the freshers fair held in the union. Getting involved right at the beginning is definitely the way to meet people at the beginning of term and get integrated into university life.

The sports fair demostrates almost every sport possible, and is definitely worth a visit, even if you are not the sporty type, as you are bound to find something to suit, whether it is football, judo or trampolining. Take extra time to check out the snowboarding stall for perhaps the best sports club in the university. As well as regular trips up north in winter, members are invited to attend BUSC (British University Ski + Snowboard Championships) at Easter. BUSC is perhaps the best possible student holiday ever for snowsports entusiastics of all levels. This hedonistic week is comprised of non-stop partying and Snow fun. A required event for all students at some point in their uni-life.

Outside of sports, there is a lot of choice for students. Some more popular options include the newspaper, the Telegraph, or Fusion the internet radio station. Most disiplines have their own society which orgnise regular pub crawls and annual balls.

Perhaps the best option for business students wanting to get involved in an organisation to further their career, gain business skills and meet corporates, is AIESEC. Its an international student organisation that arranges exchanges for international graduates. Members are invited to apply to go to national and international conferences in their first year of membership. Opportunities are great as you progress in the organisation, offering working trips across the world. However, AIESEC do not go to the freshers fair, and their website is outdated, so if you want to join, look out for lecture announcements in your 1st year business lectures.

Whatever you do, get involved, its worth it.
