Advantages: large, international, beautiful buildings

Disadvantages: noone knew we were there

It's in the lovely old city of Granada - first thing going for it. It's right in the centre of town - second thing going for it. Third: food in the student restaurant is excellent (but remember that I'm a Brit extolling the wonders of what is basically spanish school dinners!). Fourth: the buildings are mainly big, old gothic places. Fifth: they are also labyrinths so you can run away from lecturers and annoying classmates easily.

BUT: the lecturers aren't really interested in students so don't expect them to ever know your name. I expect that this is as much as part of the fact that class sizes are triple those in the UK, but also due to the laid back spanish attitude. In one of my Human Biology lessons, the lecturer sat at the front of the class smoking. Lessons are quite fast paced but students will interrupt at any point to discuss things (and you can bet it will be someone with a really strong accent that you can't understand at all). The library is massive and well-stocked. They didn't check up on us at all - noone cared if we (we as in the English students) actually went to any lessons. Noone was delegated as our "contact" for getting to know the area or in case we had any problems. Noone seemed to know that we were supposed to be there.

We had to write partial thesis while in Granada and it's fair to say that I got no help from the Uni whatsoever. Every single bit of info I found was from outside sources. My subject was the European Regional Development Fund and to my surprise there was an information office for the EC in Granada. They couldn't do enough to help me!
