I have lived in Cork all my life and going to UCC was the logical progression as everyone else I know goes there. It has a good reputation in Ireland for research, courses and social life. From the year I spent there I found little to justify this reputation. I'll start with my course a Bsc. in Computer Science which was a waste of a year. I could have learned everything in the lectures in a year if I had set my mind to it. Maybe it was just first year but I got really bored of the course and instead have started work at a website where, hopefully, I will learn a lot more and get paid for it. I might go back and finish my degree but I'm not really sure if it's worth it based on what we did in first year. The social life was pretty good if repetitive and I did meet a lot of new mates and birds! Cork is a small place though and nearly everyone who goes there is from Cork and lives at home so it gets a bit samey which ever pub/club you go to especially when you have been going to these places when you were in school. In conclusion I would recommend UCC to people from outside Cork but not to people from Cork as it's a bit too inward looking for my liking. Not a bad place to go though on the whole as it's very easygoing and cheap-ish to live as a student.
