Be careful of the toff's (University of Bristol in general)

Advantages: A brilliant university with a good reputation Disadvantages: Can bring in the wrong crowd so need to be tough The university of Bristol is one of the top Universities in England, notoriously behind Oxford & Cambridge. I joined in 2006 to study Early Childhood Studies. I was supposed to be going to Cambridge but after looking around the campus, I didn't get on with anyone especially as I came from a single parent family in a council estate. I was instantly looked down upon. As a result, I chose Bristol and that's where I'm from so I could keep my friends from college but get the degree I've always wanted. However, after a promising start, I found myself pushed out of the group by all the other girls...that's right, a course of only girls!! 18 out of 20 of them were from private boarding schools and doing a course in policy studies meant that a lot of prejudice was held. I ended up leaving but restarted a year later. The group I am now in is amazing, they're all on the same level and, although we all have different views, everyone is nice enough to listen and take on board what people say. Bristol has always had a reputation for having 'Oxbridge' rejects but sometimes it gets a bit too much. You need to be tough skinned and stand your ground to make it there!! Summary: Bristol Uni is reptuatable and has high standards, need to be strong minded and willed |
