Advantages: Great Campus, Lovely City
Disadvantages: Expensive Union Bar
The University of East Anglia in Norwich is a big university that is increasing in size all the time in population and reputation. It is to the east of the city centre about 2 miles out.
The campus in itself is like a little town. It has a barclays, HSBC and Natwest bank, a waterstones bookshop, a newsagents, a post office, a supermarket and a laundrette. Not to mention the bar, resturants and club that also are on campus. The main building is a long concrete snakelike creation that isnt too aesthetically pleasing as it was built in the 70's, it is often nic-named the 'Concrete Jungle' however inside it is very up tp date with plenty of disabled access.
The halls of residence are nearly all only a few years old or brand new. Most have en suit facilities however there are some which still share bathroom facilities. If you want an en suit however you will pay in the region of £70-80 a week.
The Student Union Bar is quite large and underwent a major refit only a couple of years ago. It serves anything from hand pull ales, lagers and spirits to coffee coke and hot chocolate. There is a smoking and a non smoking section to cater for everyone and it show live Football, Cricket and Music channels. The downside is that it is quite expensive with for example a Snakebite costing £2.
Sportswise i would say you will be hard pushed to find better facilities. The Sportspark, a £14m lottery funded sports centre has a 50m olympic sized swimmingpool, 6 astro pitches, tennis, squash and badminton courts, a climbing wall, indoor football pitches, a large gym and a cafeteria. Prices for students are cheap with the gym costing £1.20 for an hour and an astro pitch £11 for one hour.
Finally Norwich itself is a lovely city, with loads to do. The shopping is brilliant with the brand new chappelfields centre just opened. There is ofcourse Norwich City FC (the canaries) who have reasonable prices to watch matches. The bus and train facilities are also very good.
Summary: A Cracking Uni and a nice City

- 07/04/06 This was on my shortlist many moons ago. It'd be really good if you were able to add some personal experience to this - that's what makes these reviews stand out from just a normal prospectus. |
