Advantages: range of courses, next to canal, friendly and down to earth

Disadvantages: you still have to study at some point!

I am currently at Huddersfield studying Social Work.

*Classes/lecture*

The size of my classes vary from 50 to 100, depending if we join up with another subject area, such as criminology. I find the lectures vary depending on which lecturer is teaching. Sometimes you can spent 2 hours listening and watching a boring slideshow, other can be filled with case studies, group activites, presentations, individual dtusy and guest speakers.

Class rooms also vary depending on the building, some have individual tables and desks, others are more traidtional lecture theatures with rising seats. There are also some multi million ££ WOW classrooms, where everything moves and the projectors can be used on 3 of the 4 walls. This is been reviewed as to whether to be introduced into all buildings.

*Teachers/Lecturers*

As with all teachers, this varies, i have found the majority of them to be very helpful and personaly motivated in the profession of social work. There is a mixture of full and part time staff as well as some which work part time with in the social work professional and teach on special occassions. All staff have a university email, which they check regulary if you need to ask for help.

The uni also have specialist teachers to help students with academic writing, these are very helpful, especialy for 1 to 1 help!

*food*
On site there is a small cafe in nearly every building and a few restaurants dotted around campus. All of these are reasonably cheap and are not stingy with portions! Cafe on 3rd is great for breakfast!!

*parking*
This is very poor for students! there is a small staff car park off firth street and wakefield road, which students can normallysneak into after 4pm, but clampers are around so beware!
There are some 'private' cheap parking during the week, offering £2 for all day, They are not well sign posted, it is more about word of mouth with these places im afraid.

*courses*
There is a huge range of different courses offered at the university, check out the easy to navigate website if you want more specific details.

*Accomodation*
They recommend all first years staying at storthes hall student village, this is a few miles out of time with a regular connection bus. The rooms are average size and dont vary much to be honest! the ensuits range from wow to shit, pick of the draw really. You normally share a kitchen with 4-6 other people. The kitchens are large with plenty of cooking space and eating space. Between the building are plenty of little green patches, great for just hanging out and BBQ's.
On Storthes site is a bar/club as well as eating facilities and shop and a gym. All good!

Other possible shared accomodation is Aspley hall, Firth Street, Little Aspley and a couple more smaller ones, which i cant think of, off the top of my head.

The university has a support servies for students in realtion to finding housing and for helping student reading through renting contracts. They also have a list of reputable house landlords.

*bars/clubs around hudds*
There are loads of these around! Camel, Tokyos and the SU are popular, those there are so mention i won bother to list them all! You can normally pick up some good vouchers at the start of the year for bars around town so keep you eye out for them!

*clubs and societies*
loads of these too, ranging from frisby games, languages, snowboarding and climbing! these are easy to join with members of all ages and abilites. If you want to set your own up, the uni encourages this, although you need a minimum number of people to be interested in the club first :P

*other activites through the university*
Student ambassadors, school mentoring, volunteering, trips to alton towers, weekend trips, charity fundraising, music events etc. There is always some thing going on, usualy these are displayed on the website on in the SU.

*Other*
-The uni also has a job shop which assists in advertising jobs for students, this is good over the summer, though apply early!
- Patrick stewart is chancellor fo the uni (star trek man!)
- the library and PC labs are open 24 hours a day!
-The SU always has something going on, from pub quizes, wii nights, kareoke, bands and comedians! well worth a visit.
-on site medical centre for all students

Summary: great place to study but im bias as studying there! worth checking out!

Wow, big class sizes, I am not sure I would like that. When I was a student (OMG nearly 20 years ago) nobody could afford a car, I didn't know anyone who had one so parking was never a problem :-)
