University of Leeds in general

My Background ------------------- I have just completed my first year at Leeds University and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am definately glad i chose it as my Uni of choice this time last year, and am really looking forward to the next 2 years of both my degree, and the socialising. Education ------------ As i think another reviewer has mentioned; whilst being no oxford or cambridge, Leeds has a firm place towards the top end of the leaderboards and is widely recognised as a Russel Group University. I have just completed a three year undergrauate degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Leeds and i loved it. academicaly the place is no cambridge or oxford, but it has a tangeble grounding in the practical aspect of the subjects it teaches. this was perfect for me and the course i wanted to do as it offered real world training. The university itself is pretty big, with a nice large campus about a mile north of the city centre, allowing very easy access to the city. Leeds uni is excellent - i would highly recommend. Spent three years there doing business and psychology; i found the campus excellent, the location is five mins into town and the accomodation is ten mins the oter side. There are several bars and smaller nearby cafes for lunch and these are always busy, whether at 10am for coffee or 10pm for cheap drinks in the union then into the on-site club (which is fine for freshers year but most go into town after that). I have just finished my first year at the University of Leeds where I have been studying Biochemistry. The University is fantastic the union is great containing good shopping bars and clubs and has a great fun atmosphere to it as there is always something going on which you can become involved in. I found the teaching and the resources which were offered both generally and within my department went above and beyond my needs. The City itself is amazing! easily some of the best bars and clubs in the country not to mention the huge variety of the shopping which is in the city center not far at all from the campus. I am going into my third year at Leeds Uni as a music undergrad. I have enjoyed my 2 years so far, there are great facilities here and the city is so vibrant. I have to say that the union isnt the cheapest, but it has some great bars and shops and is a great place to hang out inbetween lectures, or start off a night out. The music department itself is first class. Theres a modern building not attached to anything, its also got a magnificent concert hall with great acoustics. We also have use for concerts of the great hall which is beautiful to play in.
