Advantages: Great teaching staff, Great halls of residence

Disadvantages: Too Beuracratic

UNL was a fun university to go to. I stayed in Halls for the first 2 years before moving in with my girlfriend.

It's a great university to go tom full of a rich cultural mix, a great bar (in the halls - avoid the rocket - VERY poor).

Accomodation:
-------------
Cost:

When I left halls it was paid in advance for the term - £850 - £950 per term. Worked out at about £60-£65 per week, takes a whack out of your grant/loan cheque!

I loved the halls of residence - the rooms were small but functional, the meals (only experienced this in 1st year) were good enough - a bit school dinnery but you live with that. The mix of people was great, I really got to meet people I would never have mixed with if I was left to my own devices. The halls were lovely BUT expensive. They took all my cash from my grant to leave me needing to live off my loan.

Stay in halls for the 1st year it's a great introduction to life in London. You'll meet a great many people and have a great time.

Lectures:
---------

I studied History, this is a subject I just kind of fell into and studied because I liked it at school. I never expected to enjoy it that much - merely a continuation of my schoolwork. The thing was - I LOVED IT! The staff are great tutors, they help you when you need it and know a great deal about their subjects. I kept my pathway on an American History basis. My tutor took me under her wing and I finished with a 2:1 with the support I received. Coursework is done on a basis of 2 items per module per term - it's an easy workload to maintain and means you can get deep into the subject.

LOTS OF FAFFING ABOUT:
----------------------

The ammount of faffing about it takes to get apiece of work handed in is incredible -0 has to all go through a central office. It can get lost - happened to me and I was nearly stopped from graduating. It seems a bit silly to me but it
9;s all behind me. If I was working for UNL I'd have people simply hand stuff into the tutors

It's a good uni, well respected degrees and a great location too. I'd reccomend it to anyone with fairly average A levels but who's comitted to improvement as I was.

My younger sister goes to North London Uni. Just wondering if you give a rough idea of how much the halls cost per week. She has been commuting from home for the last year (because of finance) but may think about going to halls in her final year. Cheryl.
