University of Salford

Newest Review: ... we're studying, Structure, genre and what makes a good story. The session lasts 4 hours and is split into 3 parts. First one with a guy called Andy Walker. He's very enthusiastic, bouncy and jolly. Reminds me of a Blue Peter - hopefully without The class A'S inside him, if you know what I mean...! His writing credits include a few of The Afternoon Plays on radio 4. He's guiding us through Genre- Romantic Comedies, Horror and thrillers so far. The second session is with course leader Colin Muir. Lots of writing experience to his name- The Bill, Doctors and other soaps! Lived in The states for 15 years and was part of the team who wrote 'H... more

Golly gosh......It's been such a long time. Main reason is, have started The Post Grad course now for T.V and radio scriptwriting at Salford. Been there for 5 weeks now and I have been very impressed with The course and The University itself. I'm only actually in for one day a week, but as you can guess, with it being an MA, the workload is pretty heavy, and fitting work in too doesn't leave much time to do much else. This means I've seen less of the 'Good Woman' lately and I think personally it's brought us closer together. Abscence makes the heart......bla bla bla....... whatever! We've started to communicate again, albeit through a third party, but it's a ...  Read the complete review

As an actual Salfordian who goes to Salford, I agree that the University is cack, as far as my own experiences go. But hearing that the science courses are very good, it's probably my own fault for (stupidly) doing a soft media degree. If you want some adivce, take a proper course, not a stupid one like me.

Salford is a city, by the way, it meets all the criteria (population and er, a cathedral), and it's actually older than Manchester.

If you want the opinion of a man scared of anyone who sounds slightly rough and assumes they're all murderers, and uses the word 'favoureno', then you probably won't like Salford or Manchester or anywhere other than Oxbridge, in which case, you should've tried harder to get into one of those establishments.

I have been to three universities. This is the worst. It is not even a real university experience - it is a community college. Never mind the crime stories (not had any trouble myself... yet), there is nothing going on here. It is a second-rate poly at the end of the day.

Reading some of the previous reviews you would think that Salford University is a terrible place. Well that's simply not true. yes salford is a city and yes there are some parts that aren't particularly desirable. But guess what- you don't have to live there! Salford Uni is very close to manchester city centre (5 mins on bus/train) and is easy to get to from all over greater manchester. It even has its own train station- salford crescent which puts you right next to the main campus. ok it's not too glamerous but the staff are very friendly. You can nip into manchester city centre for shopping in a lunch hour. yes you have to be aware of personal ...  Read the complete review

I enrolled on the BSc music technology course in 1999. At 18 I was happy and excited to be accepted on this course which was exactly what i was interested in. However it wasn;t long before all my ideals about the excitement of university life promised by my parents, were blown away. I arrived the weekend before freshers week expecting to find lots of people moving in and a general feeling exicitement. However the whole building (a high rise on Canon street) was deserted. My flat mates were Greek with poor english and the remaining lad was local. We walked out into Salford to find the streets empty and very few students in the student bars. On the way home a ...  Read the complete review
