Advantages: so many attractions, shops, and nightlife, nice variety of people

Disadvantages: small rooms in halls, expensive in some areas of town and students are frowned upon in some pubs

I have been at this uni for two years now, going on for my third and have been lucky enoguh to go to the new college campus, that is where the so called rejects go, you know the sports students and the art students. but first let me explain something to you all....the sports students only get one campus at the university and this campus is soon to be solely for sports students. the arts campus used to be in winchester, about 20 minutes down the road, but this has now been added to this campus, resulting in the campus itself being renovated and all the buildings being renwed and rebuilt, making the university itslef an much nicer place to go. the library at new college is now being used by so many people from the main campus who cuss our little site, but to be honest the new college campus is in a much better position, right next to the town and the station, and about 2 minutes away from all the major pubs and clubs in southampton. form the halls of the new college, that is gately, which are brilliant, romero, which are self catered, and the derelict traditional, which although they have larger rooms, you have to share a bath and a toilet with about ten other people, although in the other two halls both a shower, sink and toilet accompanies the rooms. for me, if you are on this campus, go into gately if you can because although the rooms are smaller, the provision of food is an added bonus and believe me the food is plentiful. although it may not meet you requirements everyday, you can always revert to the side order of a jacket potatoe if you prefer. also, the meals are so big they allow you to eat one meal a day and still be filled up. from the halls there are about 100 pubs within a 30 minute walk in any direction, and about 5 clubs within a 5 minute walk out of your door. and that is the honest truth. southampton championed uk garage in many of its clubs when it first arose two years ago but many of the clubs in southampton have many different styles of music whi
ch you can quickly find out. rhinos club appears more of a garage and r and b club, except on thurs when it is a 70s club, lennons and nexus are indie and rock clubs, and new yorks and the academy are mostly cheese. Ikon on the other hand is a huge club where regular mainstream named djs appear and the music is loud and proud. and the ladies aren't bad that go here either. with the opening of the new shopping centre there is the girl's shopping paradise, and most of the shops will cater for the males too. this also means that there are so many available jobs if the students have to work part time to pay for their tuition. of the teachers that I have had, julie lakomy is the big boss and a little strict with the marking but the other ones are alright, not great, but hey, to be honest you don't take that much notioce of the teachers now do you. the lectures are dull but better than the seinars where you have to talk amongst yourselves as a group which is very nerve-wracking. I haveonly been to one uni but I think that this one is perfect for those who live in the south and in london as it allows you to commute home easily. I really like the area and could see myslef living there in the future, and that is from a bloke who has lived in london for their entire lives

at least go and see it!

This review is now out of date. The fine arts courses are still taught at the Winchester School of Arts. It was announced a few months back that Soton Uni is going to be selling off the New College Campus and integrating all of its courses into the main campus at Highfield. (This years applicants will be the last admitted and after they finish in three years time the campus will be sold off.)

I was a Soton student. What are you studying? What was your UCAS no.? I did MFL and PGCE from 1987-93. Halls are ok but the food sucks. Best food is Highfield Hall, I was in Glen! Great football team though!
