University of Sussex in general

Newest Review: ... to my friends who went to other universities. Sussex is very hot on critical thinking and all aspects of postmodernism. I reckon you can tell a Sussex student because they'll be the one deconstructing the telly advert or criticising the cultural hegemony in a newspaper article. Which I think is brilliant. However, if your priority is career and money, I?d suggest you go elsewhere. No-one I know from uni has got a decent job (and half of us are happy enough with that situation). This is partly to do with Sussex?s philosophy, and partly to do with Brighton?s slacker atmosphere. Sussex has definitely lost the radical political atmosp... more

I did English at Sussex from 1996-99 and had a great time (largely due to hanging round Brighton: I couldn't recommend the campus as a fun place to be). But it's more often than not worth it, plus you get bagsies on the top accommodation on campus (if you like campus) when you return as a sophisticated 4th year. Campus at Sussex is a couple of miles out of town, (buses and ...

I went to Sussex between 1995 and 1998 to do an English BA and enjoyed it a lot. If you are the type of student who really wants to get involved in the subject you're taking and in campus life then this is the university for you. Probably the most attractive aspect of my course was the option of doing minor courses on other subjects related to English giving me a much more holistic view of my discipline. Generally Sussex is very good for English, Computing Science, Social Anthropology and other social sciences and you get a good mix of people throughout. Also Brighton is not a town where it is easy to differentiate between student and non-student as there are so many ...
