University of Sussex - an overview (University of Sussex in general)
Member Name: blinderben
Advantages: good university with strong courses, mixed intake, unconventional format, plenty of political activism, Brighton is a great town to stay in Disadvantages: perhaps becoming too much like London on sea, social events on campus are very poor, prices not much lower than London
I went to Sussex between 1995 and 1998 to do an English BA and enjoyed it a lot. If you are the type of student who really wants to get involved in the subject you're taking and in campus life then this is the university for you. Probably the most attractive aspect of my course was the option of doing minor courses on other subjects related to English giving me a much more holistic view of my discipline. Generally Sussex is very good for English, Computing Science, Social Anthropology and other social sciences and you get a good mix of people throughout. Also Brighton is not a town where it is easy to differentiate between student and non-student as there are so many incomers. So if you are thinking of applying for Sussex next year, you should go for it. Accomodation on campus for your first year ranges from poky East Slope, which seems to have more 'flat spirit' than the rather austere Park Village to the modern and well-upholstered Lewes Court and Brighthelme. However, you will probably have more fun living in town in your second and third years with undergraduates living in many areas of Brighton and Hove. Summary: |
