Advantages: I love it, culture of Wales, facilities, sports and libraries, Nice flats, cheap living, scholarships
Disadvantages: NOTHING I love it
I've just got back from Wales and I am so excited about going I could type for pages on the subject, it is absolutely perfect and I love the place, plus I don't have to pass any exams which means in August when everyone is stressed because they don't know where they will be living in September I know that I will be living there and will have a house and everything waiting for me, plus an extra £300 in my bank account for my trouble!! So if you think the scholarship exams are a waste of time you are actually wrong, I do A levels in Maths, IT and Psychology and ended up setting exams in Information & Library Studies and Statistics, and yet some how I have passed with a unconditional offer making life so much less stressful. The university is amazing it is set in beautiful countryside with massive hills to walk in, and of course it is by the seaside so there is millions of B&Bs if you want anyone to come and stay! It has everything, huge shops and little gift shops; it has a castle and all sorts of beautiful scenery. The university has pubs on campus, fast food on campus, shops of its own, an amazing up to the minute gym, sports clubs for everything, swimming pool, snooker and pool club, a night club a massive theatre multiscreen cinema, rooms and rooms of computer facilities, cafes bars, laundries and everyone is within 5 minutes walk of everyone else. The course I am going to be studying is brilliant and in the first term they take you on an outwards bounds course the other side of Wales where you rock climb, canoe, absale, wind surf and do problem solving plus anyone scared of heights is made to climb a 20ft telegraph pole and jump off, that would be ok except I am scared of heights, well not much but I wouldn't like it, I would do it though, I think, well I'll tell you in October, all of this is to scare off computer scientist that are the stereotypical computer geek. Basically there are ma
ny courses and trips you can go on outside your course that was my main point! There are 63 pubs in Aberystwyth and 3 nightclubs, No one has ever managed to crawl them all, and so if you are up for a challenge this is your place!! There are so many sports am going to take up when I get there and the music is brilliant too. You can do every sport you can think or and if you can’t they will fund you to start your own club or society. They have everything and I love it so much, I can’t wait to get there. Only 7 months such in the exceptional scenic Crewe!! (Read my opinion on Crewe for a contrast!) There is so much more to say, the union is excellent they have so much, you can even get psychological concealing if the place drives you crazy! The accommodation is great, plus you can chose catered or self-catering and ensuite, sharing etc, so it is up to you. Second year you get a house in the town (still not too far for walk) and then in the third year they have a student village for you to move into loads of houses with their own roads, even their own bar and laundry but only students live there so you are surrounded by friends and peers. Yesterday when the sun was out I was sitting in the bar on the 3rd floor with some people I met there, and you could see out right over Aber and the sea on one side and into the welsh mountains on the other, it was stunning especially for a town mouse! The only disadvantage I can see is that it is in Wales, personally I feel this is obvious and part of the appeal, it means it has signs and letters in Welsh and English and it is beautiful countryside, plus you are surrounded by rugby and welsh dragons everywhere you turn. I put this as a disadvantage because I read some opinions on here about Aber. Before I went to see for myself and everyone who hated it hated it for exactly what I love, and the fundamentals of the place so if you apply to the Univer
sity of Wales, expect it to be in Wales!! The only other bad thing is that Prince Charles went there which is quite bad because he had bad A levels and he left this hideous concrete monstrosity outside the union building. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<&l t;<<<<<<<&l t;<<<<<<<<<<<< <<<<<<<< ;<<<<<<<<<<<<& lt;<<<<<<< <<<<<<<<<<<<&l t;< I just wanted to add a quick note to say that I now attend the university and love it...The place is a legend (everything is a legend around here according to the Welsh people I know) I have my own little flat shared with 7 others, Internet in my room, en-suite massive kitchen, TV rooms, computer rooms, brillient lectures halls and libraries, the union has just expanded and now has a shop for everything you need, food shops are 5 minutes away and town 10. I have joined so many clubs, drama and waterpolo being two, I swim daily and the gym has excellent facilities...there is nothing I can fault it on except walking across campus is really tiring and there are hills and steps everywhere. Last Saturday I went to watch Aber play rugby you walk to the ground through the campus and a little forest path, squirels and birds it was lovely. SO THERE!! ********************************************** **************************** Just one last thing....I WENT UP THE POLE....IT'S 25FT AND IT WOBBLES IN THE WIND...I DID IT, I DID IT, AND THEN I DID IT AGAIN....AREN'T I CRAZY!!!! ACTUALLY IT WAS GREAT FUN...BUT VERY SCARY!!! EXCELLENT VIEWS OVER THE SEA, I STOOD NO THE POLE AND LOOKED AROUND A BIT, WELL COCKY!!! BUT I MADE IT...AND SURVIVED!!

- 31/03/03 Do we really have 63 pubs up here?! At last count, I've only (only!) been to 29 of them so I'm not even half way there yet!
I'm in Cwrt Mawr and it's a right dive, we even got to Rosser bar cos ours is pokey, but I've got my house sorted for next year! It's gonna be rather confusing though as we have two Steves and two Jos moving in! :-) Rah! |
